43:32 - the river is "milky" from "rock flour" or "glacial flour". It is fine-grained, silt-sized particles of rock, generated by mechanical grinding of bedrock by glacial erosion or by artificial grinding to a similar size. Because the material is very small, it becomes suspended in meltwater making the water appear cloudy, which is sometimes known as glacial milk.

We had a room (not an accessible room) with a bathroom on this train. The toilet would vent in our room every time someone flushed below or adjacent to our room. It was awful but would quickly dissipate. Still awful each time. It's the balance of having your own bathroom for the long journey vs the awful smell.
@Iluthra
@Iluthra 3 ай бұрын
As long as I traveled First Class, it was fine for me not to have an ensuite bathroom.. The bathrooms were fully stocked with supplies, were large enough to change clothes in, and had lovely fixtures. Once I went Coach and the bathrooms didnt even have TP. Luckily I carry lots of travel tissues. Coach? Never again! The thing I Hated was the snack bar was never manned. I couldn't buy a thing and I had brought only a few snacks. I'd prefer vending machines aboard.

I experienced AmTrak many times now and I love it. The only thing I did not like is the price of the food. To me is a little expensive but the food is okay. The toilet is very, very small like you're inside the airplane or probably smaller. The shower room is okay. Very noisy at night when the train is running but after a while you will get use to the noise. I recommend to get a sleeper room so you can stretch your legs while sleeping. The rooms are expensive and the first class rooms are more expensive but pretty good because it's a little bigger. I had a phobia on flying airplanes so train is the best for me to travel. Thank you for the video. You did a good job doing this video.

You asked the question of where are all the people, well one thing about Alaska is that most of us pretty much stick to home. Our winters last 9 months on average, so we are accustomed to staying within the confines of our properties which have enough chores to keep us busy most of the year.

And as a California expat I greatly appreciate the views of my beloved Pacific Ocean and dry rolling hills with scrub oaks and Sequoia trees. I miss the beauty of this so much. If you really want to get cute with this in the future, there is a way to do it during the summer without flying. From Seattle, take Amtrak Cascades up to Bellingham, WA. From there, take a ferry called the Alaska Marine Highway, Southeast Mainline, to Juneau. From Juneau, take the Cross Gulf ferry to Whittier. Once in Whittier, it's back on the train: the Glacier Discovery line, on to Anchorage, and then on to the Denali Star. The ferry to Alaska is a bit of an adventure in its own right.

Very cool. The meal on the Alaska train looked better than on Amtrak. That said, I do enjoy Amtrak & wish we had more passenger rail in the USA.

I like Kuga’s introduction about Amtrak train travel from LA to Alaska. Mr. Kuga was a polite gentleman and kindly to describe everything about his trip with Amtrak. I was surprise it cost $846 for 5 days trips. yet the food looked pretty average and there was no sightseeing at all until they flew to Alaska. 😂

I really enjoyed your tour video. Closed caption is so much better than hearing someone yapping all the time. ( Just when you start thinking about what you're looking at, a voice barges in.) Reading is more peaceful and also, narration is subjective, so it can be annoying if someone has poor presentation skills or an annoying voice. keep up the good work. I subscribed the the very reasons above. Thank Very much...

Great video. I enjoyed it very much. However, the title is very misleading. You cannot get from Los Angeles to Alaska by "Luxurious Train" You have to go by airplane or automobile for part of the trip.

Not true. You're correct that you can't get the entire distance by train, but you can take a ferry from Washington to Alaska rather than flying, it just takes longer. Amtrak takes you from Seattle to Bellingham, WA. The ferry goes from Bellingham to Whittier, Alaska. The train will take you from Whittier to Anchorage.

This had me scratching my head too. I assumed that when the train got to Vancouver it would be another train to take you through Canada to get to Alaska..lol

Try to see Haines, Alaska next time with the Chilkat Indian Village (real totem poles and ceremonial dances, the bald eagle preserve, Mr. Henderson's farm...I lived there for a couple of years. Some of my best memories walking through the forest and playing on the pier and a shipwreck on the beach.

We took a land/sea cruise that included a train from Talkeetna to Whittier. I was hoping your Alaska train would spare you the constant narration by a tour host, but it sounds like you got a loudspeaker tour as well. Thanks for your quiet and humorous comments!
