The Manipur issue has been boiling since a long time and we have heard endless news about the protests and violence. Till now the conflict seems to be unsettled, even after the intervention of State Government and Central Government and deployment of various armed forces. However, today in this video we will cover the complete history of Manipur. Try and understand the origins of the 3 prominent tribes from Manipur, the kukis, nagas and meiteis. 1:17 Correction: Meiteis were living in present Manipur way before 33AD. Since time immemorial, they were living at hills just like the kabuis, tangkhuls and several other old tribes. The Valley region a.k.a. imphal valley was earlier water bodies or lakes. With time passes by, water bodies dried up and the meiteis came down and reside in valley. The rise of meitei kingdom in valley started in 33 AD. So, the tribes and the meiteis have been living in the hills atleast 2000-3000 BC

Being a Meetei, we know more about our root and history. There were 7 clans kingdom in Manipur in BC, later all these kingdoms merged into a single kingdom in 33 AD under the great empiror NONGDA LAIREN PAKHANGBA. Meetei king had wrtten royal chronicle which have written daily event of Meitrabak since BC until Britsh period , king Churachand . Manipur had different names in different period in history as Kangliepak, Meeteileipak, Meitrabak, Manipur. Kangleipak and Meitrabak means land of Meetei. After the change of name of the land as Manipur, Meetei are also known as Manipuris.However, Meetei king allow different tribe to live in Meitrabak. But it is very clear that Very few kukis were allow to settle in Meitrabak during British era only. After merger of Manipur to India , with the changes in land reform and caste system , it ruins completely to Meitei/ Manipuris. As Meitei had witness several horror situation in history and learnt lesson from those , Meitei will never give up whatever cause to protect their motherland Manipur. The origin of Kuki/Chins is shrouded in mystery though it is largely believed they migrated to present Myanmar, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura sometime in the 15th century CE from China.

Short and Simple Answer - The manipuri classical dance ,the manipuri king, the sangol kangjei( modern polo), the martial art ( thang ta) , the manipuri language ( meitei mayek) ,the numbers of olympic and world champion,some of the top footballers ,.......all belong to Meitei. The Meiteis and Nagas are the only two indigenous communities known to have lived in Manipur since ages. Meitei language has been in existence since 2000 years back till present times.The evolution of the Meitei nation was started with the accession of king Pakhangba in 33 CE/ AD. The first Salai (tribe) into the Meitei fold was Khaba. Till the beginning of the Christian era, the Khaba Kings were ruling at Kangla. it was due to meiteis that the british could not go beyond regions of manipur as it was well defended by meitei rulers. there were 33 tribes who were given the ST status post merger of manipur with India by 1949. meitei being one such tribes, were not given ST status, as it was given to kuki and naga tribes. this was the main problem for meiteis. before the merger agreement between the manipur and the Union of India in 1949, the British had designated the Meiteis as a 'tribe amongst tribes'. hence the meiteis say that they are essentially demanding the restoration of their tribal status that they had under the British rule. The Kukis constitute one of several hill tribes within India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The kuki people have been settling into manipur since 18th , 19th centuries from the mizo and chin hills., and they have arrived in waves, according to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland. Christian missionaries entered Manipur in the late 19th century but did not yet make inroads into the tribal areas. The victory of the British in Anglo-Kuki War of 1917-1919 opened up their mind of the Kukis to Christianity followed by British. This led them to rapidly convert to Christianity. the kukis fought the british, as they were not christians at that time, around 1917. had the kukis been christians by that time, this anglo kuki war would not have happened. both meiteis and kukis are part of the INA under Netaji, which fought the british army. and, like how kukis can be proud of anglo kuki war, meiteis bravely fought anglo manipur war during 1891.

Manipur History During the Seven Years Devastation (1819-1826) in Manipur, about 5 lakh Meiteis were killed and 3 lakh were taken as captives. Less than 5000 Burmese soldiers took part in the Manipur campaign. According to Maibam Chanu, when the Burmese left Imphal, the population of the kingdom was 2016 souls. However, there are other estimates that the number was higher, about 8000 souls. Majority of them were women. Meitei men fled to Cachar along with the king, leaving behind Meitei women in the kingdom. During the seven years, Burmese soldiers took Meitei women as wives. An instance where a Meitei prince took the help of a Meitei women to kill her Burmese husband is a testimony to the claim. In fact, every Burmese soldiers took Meitei woman as wives. Records suggests that the Burmese left huge bloodline in a Meitei society. A scholar who carried out a scientific study to prove the hypothetical question of Burmese bloodline was threatened and asked to abort research in 2010. According to rough estimates, close to 30-35% of Meitei population are believed to have Burmese blood. The Mangang clan was almost wiped out at one point of time. When the Burmese left, children born from Meitei mothers were slowly assimilated to Meitei society. There were debates whether such children are to be accepted to Meitei society or not. However, the demand to replenish the loss compels them to accepted them in the society. Even today, historians have repeatedly avoided such studies as it can have a negative consequences in the unity of the Meiteis. What you said is totally correct.Kuki tribes have settled in region west of Irrawaddy river from at least the 11th to 16th century, based on the fact that they had no traces of Buddhism, which was already prevalent in Burma by that time.

Meitei population is live around nearly 07% of valley land wit different tribe n meitei muslim, the remaining 2% is water.. According to a book written by British man KUKI were brought to manipur as a paying guest as they had to pay rs 6 per annum.. Before the manipur was merger in 1949, british has designated the meitei as a tribe amongst the tribe.. According to census of 1881, 1901, 1931 ST tag was there for meitei but in 1951 the tag were removed. All of the meiteis were not fully converted to hinduism

I'm from north east and the amount of people converting from hindu to christianity is scary My sisters and aunts were Hindus but got married to Christian men later on we learnt that they were being forced to convert saying their husband families will not be allowed inside the church if their hindu daughter in law doesn't convert to christianity My distant uncle is Christian and he hasn't ever entered our home cause we have pictures of shiva and other hindu deities During college due to some problem I stayed for 1 year at a Christian pg giving money ofcourse There once my warden called me at night and asked about my god when I named shiva after her many insistence she said shiva and all other hindu god are dead and that jesus is the only one alive that my god are actually human All through these years I had not said anything in these religion debates but after all these experiences I couldn't stop myself from defending my god from then on

Very much appreciated for this video but still I request you to dig more on original territory of Manipur. Manipur Kingdom was the most powerful Kingdom in north east India. I can refer you to old documented books like My Experience in Manipur and Naga hills by James Johnstone , The Meitheis by T.C. Hudson, Native State of Manipur by R. Just to clarify, some of the points you've mentioned has never been well accepted, starting from the migration and settlement of Nagas, map showing the entire Naga Hills under Ahom, etc., since there are no concrete proof of such. But it was not, meities had a militia too that was fighting for their own security but it was dissolved all weapons snatched, militants sent to jail while the nagas and kukkis were given per month salary of 6k along with the permission to keep the military grade weapons, and separate states, where they are majority today, i.e nagaland and mizoram. while mieties had to leave their homes and had to move to other states including manipur where today they are looking like a majority to you. i will be very rude here now but you abhrahmics(except jews) really don't care about human rights of non abrahmics you treat them as animals or lower class. if the non abrahmic community is in danger you say nah its their internal issue its not ethenic.
