Kukri review: Kailash Blades custom Pensioner.

My initial impressions and testing of my custom Pensioner. Had a few hiccups along the way. In the end though i must say i am thoroughly impressed and pleased with the final result.

Thank you! A lot of people cringe at my testing sometimes because of the beauty of some of the blades. But I refuse to own a blade that i cannot use.

Always wear safety gloves and flip flops during testing. Especially when chopping towards your toes, Safety is number one priority. Blade so sharp it can even cut paper. Can almost be used to choppers small branches.

Was thinking about adding a Kailash to my collection but I've got three Tora's incoming. I'm not sure now with the broken tip on the first one and the buttplate on the second one coming loose. I guess stuff happens though. I may still order one eventually. I've got a Tops SXB I don't think you could ever snap the tip off on it. Thanks for the nice review.

Thanks for the comment 😊 I had issues with Tora as well for my first Khukuri but they fixed it super quickly. All manufacturers regardless of where they are based have the odd failure, it’s true 😊

I’ve got a question...why do you do a ‘tip test’? When would you need to do this with your knife? I get that doing a small divet may be needed but prying sideways with the tip???🤷🏻‍♂️

Good question and well asked! The main reason is because Kailash Blades say they can take it. People put torsion on their knives a lot in survival and bushcraft carving. Personally, I generally don't, but i was working on what Kailash say the knives can handle

Yep! while it's not something we recommend or that's particularly practical it's something that a knife like this should be able to handle even just for insurance's sake during overswings or wonky camp tasks. Standard grind for this one. Needs to be able to baton and handle the odd deer or goat bone.

You would need to ask the new owner. It was repaired and sold as a blem through Kailash Blades. I'm sure it's still serving someone very well 😊

I would recommend the micarta. It's water resistant and won't shrink or expand with changes of temperature or climate 😊
