I think the line ability bug is when you cancel the animation before it fully completes by moving hence the projectile is not shot as far as the animation goes, which is not the case as far as the actually ability is concerned since we can see as the damage is magically dealt. Try to stand still when shooting line abilities and see if that makes a difference.
