Kumaar Family stay in Malaysia is awesome. Their Facebook page reported they are back to US already. Their stay in Malaysia miss out one major event, Chinese New Year. If they stay a little longer, they will observe, learn and brave themselves with some Malaysian Chinese cultures like lion dances, firecrackers, lantern decors, red packets and CNY foods like Yee Sang, CNY kuih known as 'ling koh'.

Rachel memang sempoi. And to answer why Malaysians are so obsessed with their food I think because originally malaysians all came from very humble beginnings. Everyone came from villages and lower income families. Hence food is a luxury. When people come and visit, you have nothing to offer but food. Food is the way how we show our guests that we appreciate them. and over time that culture has been passed down from generation to generation and hence why Malaysians are obsessed with food! At least that's what I think. :)

Why Malaysians appreciate their foods is because our foods here are full of various flavors. We use alot of spices and various cooking methods. In the US, they may think our cooking styles are so complicated but hey, that gives the flavor. There are also alot of choices of food to choose until it's so hard to choose.

I heard from somewhere bout "ayam belanda".not sure how true it is.The Dutch are actually the 1st westener that "visit" our land.So they brought along the Turkey.Hence the name Ayam Belanda is referring to those chicken brought in by the Dutch "visitor". But I think there is some logic in it.

i can say malaysia is food heaven.. we have everything here indian, chinese, western (our style) , japan and of course malay food ... with many style based on places or state ... every state has unique signature dish and history .. 1 of my fav is masak lemak cili api you must try it, for your info this is signature dish from Negeri Sembilan... but so spicy careful with that ..

Rachael reminds me of my College teacher, Mrs O'Neil. Very similar looking face wise back in 1984. Kumar, you must be the first and only Indian Malaysian to find a white girl who is prepared to learn another language like Bahasa Melayu. That is very rare. I am happy for Rachel and you in that sense. Home is always Malaysia where your grassroots started. I love Malaysia. It has harmony and togetherness with people, let alone food. Although there are some pigs and anti-social people in the Malaysian community, just be careful of them. it would be none other than jealousy about you. But you can defend yourself with your classic malay. They'd run away in a hurry! I feel sorry for them. Kumar, you are blessed.
