I was so pumped when the Big Sick came out because my boyfriend’s Pakistani, and I’m his family’s Emily. But I’m Assyrian and was raised like he was to only marry within my community, so he’s also MY family’s Emily. I have My Big Far Greek Wedding, and now my boyfriend has The Big Sick. Kumail and Emily, we love you!!

I’m not Muslim or a Man but I am a Mom. Love from a parent is universal and understood from every parental perspective on Earth. Your Mom put aside everything she’s dreamt about since the day you were born to accept who you chose. Your Mom loves your more than herself. What a great woman!

The whole story is so sweet. Something about coming to America and begrudgingly accepting the customs for the sake of your loved ones is really inspiring. My mom is an immigrant, as well...and she kept some things and left others behind. I think first generation Americans have an extremely interesting perspective on America and a lot of them have a deep appreciation for the country and all it has given to them.

I know a couple who had an arranged marriage; they are Punjabi. They hated each other for the first two years and then they decided it was make or break, so they started to "date", and now they adore each other. On the flip side - arrange marriages can lead to a lot of abuse. I wouldn't want to take that chance.

@@eamonndeane587 What has that to do with anything I said? LOL I simply stated I know a couple who did wind up with a successful marriage. So to put your mind at rest, I also know couples who had an arranged marriage which turned violent and the wives had to escape. Happy?
