Asai Karate:
浅井空手: 組手:外受け&跳ね猿臂という珍しい猿臂打ち: インド・ボンベイ講習会
There are many enpi uchi techniques 猿臂打ち技 such as Yoko enpi 横猿臂, Tate enpi 縦猿臂 and Ushiro enpi 後ろ猿臂.
In Asai karate we have one unique enpi strike called Hane enpi (撥ね又は跳ね). As the elbow moves similar to that of a bird wing so some Japanese people use a wrong Kanji 漢字, for Hane 羽 which means wing.
Anyway, this technique is unique as the elbow jumps upward with the shoulder joint as a pivoting point.
For this technique, there are two requirements:
#1: You need to get into the close distance to the opponent.
In other words, you need to get into a dance partner distance, otherwise, you elbow will not reach the opponent jaw or chin.
#2: Only the inside of the attacking line works.
As I demonstrated, it is quite difficult to do this technique when you step in the outside of the attacking line. In this case, Yoko enpi, as an example, to the rib cage is more appropriate technique.
Another important point of this technique is that the elbow strike must be executed right after the block. There must not be any pause at all.
You are so close to the opponent and you will be vulnerable if you delay your first counter. The opponent can either execute his second punch or even grab and take you down.
Once the first counter of Hane empi is successful, the opponent is wide open for the second and third counter attacks. It is totally up to you which techniques you wish to use.
