Unfortunately the house was never built and the farm was sold piece by piece due to money problems at the time. it was a long time ago but the memory of the flavor still remains with me... Maybe someday I will be able to go back there and try this wonderful and tasty fruit again, if the tree is still alive haha (sorry if the text got confused im from Brasil)

Kumquats go really well with black tea, like an English breakfast. I can't stomach eating too many, but if you just cut the top off and squeeze one into your teacup, it's better than a lemon or lime. If any of you are black tea drinkers, you owe it to yourself to use a kumquat and some raw flower honey at some point.

They only rarely come into UK supermarkets. It used to be the delicious oval one with many seeds, but has been the pointy one with few seeds. My Mum used to have one as a houseplant, and whenever I visited, it was covered in delicious fruit, but my parents would not belive me when I told them they were edible! They are the only 'orange' in UK supermarkets that tastes of anything at all, but are very expensive, and usually chill killed, so the day after you get them home the pointy end has turned to mush. I try to buy them and plant seeds whenever I can, but, so far, they always get to about 4" high, and then the leaves turn yellow and drop off. One year, I had 12 of them, in small pots, and every one died at 4" high. :( I grew a little tangerine from seed this year. Trying to hold it at a foot high, but no flowers yet. Here there is only one variety of lime 'Tahiti', and it has no pips at all, but is less likely to immediately turn velvetty blue like the chill killed lemons do. You have the best job in the world! Here there are hardly any fruit and veg varieties in superstores, and nearly all of it is ddead, and rots if you don't put it straight in the fridge. Kids never get to taste anything ripe. It's good to see so much enthusiasm in other countries. I used to like the California Rare Fruit Growers monologues on growing exotic fruit from pips. I had forgotten about them till you reminded me. Another good resource is PFAF 'Plants For A Future', which tells you about the uses of your local wild fruits, that hardly anyone (in UK believes ou can eat. I've even had school kids ask me what cherries were, when I was picking them off trees in the town centre. Even the pigeons wouldn't eat them. They only eat dropped burgers. :(

I tried a few kumquats years ago and they seemed little more than a neat oddity, a citrus with an edible rind. I found the inside was too sour and full of seeds to be something that I would pay money for again. Though now I'm wondering if the ones I had just weren't that good. Seems like the crosses defeat the biggest drawing point of the kumquat by adding the typical bitterness and astringency back to the rind. Would be interesting to see them crossed with a citrus like a Amalfi Coast lemon that doesn't have much bitterness in the rind either but are very aromatic.
