The mahu had their place in our community. We all had struggles growing up - no one was spared. That’s life. The mahu was an unspoken understanding- we knew who were mahu and that was that. There really were no political or cultural agenda, we just lived and survived. Today, there’s too much emphasis on supposedly cultural or political definitions and roles of mahu. Maybe it’s the times that we live in and it seems more complicated. We loved in a simpler time and it was less complicated and easier to deal with. No need one hotline - we all knew our place.
