HUGE Mahalo 🌺 Nui’s for sharing RARE videos of Kumu Raylene’s sacred offerings … she was my kumu/haku 2002-4 out Kaname’e … her chants alone heal one from their depths of their ‘iwi … I so miss her 💕💕💕 …. thankfully Hope Keawe is carrying on her teachings … but to never hear her voice live is as tragic as loosing our native forest species … however, know she is still here for anyone wishing to call upon her … that is how she lived her life here.

Aloha and Mahalo for putting this video up. My mother is Cathy Stancil who is in this video, I remember watching this competition when i was a child and now im 27. Aunty Raylene meant so much to our family, she's the reason why we all dance the hula. My mother and Aunty Debbie have taken care of the Fairfield Halau for awhile. Kumu's legacy lives on, and she will always live within us and our HULA. We were all blessed to have her in our lives!!! THIS VIDEO MEANS SO MUCH TO ME!! Kellen Stancil

Mahalo nui loa for sharing your memories Kellen! You bring tears of happiness to my eyes as I've just come home from dancing with my hula sisters and we had conversation about Kumu Raylene and her mana'o shared with us in her visits to Oregon. In my heart you are my brother, I dearly hope one day we will meet. We are each a flower in her lei. Blessed be every one who knew her! Me ke aloha ~ Susan ~

P.S. I recently encountered a silver cat at a park; when I pet her, she turned her head up and smiled a HUGE grin and squeezed her eyes in slits. It was like getting a cuddle from Kume Raylene. (Best hugs in the world, that woman!)

WOW Sheril, You must be so very proud of this accomplishment. This is the most AMAZING choreography and Oli! I'm happy to pass the video along in this way. 15 members of my halau, Ka P'io O Ke Anuenue, just returned from Hawai'i Island where we participated in 3 memorials for Kumu Raylene, one being at Volcanoes National Park, on the anniversary of her ascending the rainbow. Such an honor to dance with our sister halau from Kohala, Halau Hula Manaolana o Kohala and Hula Keao O Kala of Pahoa.

The video is AMAZING. I've heard stories of the mele and choreography, would to hear from someone who was there. I'll post the story of how it fell in my hands, in a future post. While practicing with my sisters, we popped in our DVD to dance Mele Ohana; and suddenly there was Kumu and Ikaika, dancing Mele Ohana together. We all wept. I hear her lessons every day.

Mahalo so much. It was a blessing that our halau and famiy was able to make it to Hawaii for her funeral. By the way do you have any videos of the auana they did this year or any videos of them at merrie monarch the year before that you can post on youtube. And yes in all our hearts we are family. My mother and I have had the blessing to be able to go on our journey of the hula together as mother and son, something I will always cherish in my heart!!!
