it was awesome till you said MAC address keep on changing. Took me some time to research and get it clarified. for those who didn't understood it here is the explanation. A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique identifier assigned to a network interface of a device, such as an Ethernet card or a Wi-Fi adapter. It is used to identify the device on a local network and is usually assigned by the manufacturer. As a data packet travels from one device to another, the MAC address of the source device remains the same, it is the destination MAC address that changes. The destination MAC address is the MAC address of the next hop device, it is the device to which the data packet is sent next. When a data packet is sent by a device, the device adds the destination MAC address to the packet's header. As the packet travels through the network, each network device that receives the packet examines the destination MAC address in the packet's header to determine if it is the intended recipient. If the device is not the intended recipient, it examines the IP address in the packet's header and uses routing tables and algorithms to determine the next hop, the next device to which the packet should be sent. The device then changes the destination MAC address in the packet's header to the MAC address of the next hop device and forwards the packet. In summary, as a data packet travels from one device to another, the MAC address of the source device remains the same, it is the destination MAC address that changes. Each network device that receives the packet examines the destination MAC address in the packet's header to determine if it is the intended recipient, if not it uses routing tables and algorithms to determine the next hop, the next device to which the packet should be sent, and changes the destination MAC address in the packet's header to the MAC address of the next hop device and forwards the packet. Basically when your data packet is on global network it has global IP addresses. which router will look to get the next hop's MAC address. when you are on private network we use private IP address to get the next hop's MAC address. both the cases we find the MAC address from routing tables. Note that routing tables in global network is different from routing tables in private network. Say we are connected using wifi to a private local network before the last hop the last before node will load the MAC address our PC's wifi and send it to our PC. It will get that MAC address again from routing table.
@abhishekgopinath46089 ай бұрын
Did you mean each device which receives the frame will check the destination IP address to see if it's the intended destination because the frame is hopped to the next device having the MAC address right so it is the intended destination according to MAC address in the header.
@vickymar38362 ай бұрын
I am sure this explanation is not right. Both source and destination mac address change at every hop. only ip address is constant. at every hop the destination mac is changed to the MAC of the device further along the path and the source to the mac of the current transmitter of the packet. Please correct me if I am wrong, since logically it does not make sense for source MACs to be constant as acknowledgments and similar protocol specific activities are done between the network segments. The immediate source is also required for the dynamic learning of the Mac Table for each intermittent device so it does not make sense for source MAC to be constant.

Thank you for this amazing crash course for computer networking. It has help me understand and recall those networking concepts that I have learnt in my diploma. I have completed this video within 7 hours also jotted the notes that were important especially OSI models and how the OSI models works in the networking. I wish you achieve a lot of success in whatever you're doing for the IT community around the world. Hope you're having a good week ahead. 🙃😉

Man this is an exhaustive course on computer networking. This is an awesome intro for someone who wants to skip their professors classes and get dirty with overall concepts. Please check the whole video. More detailed reading on various topics will be needed even if you complete this 4hr video. Though this will serve as a good starting point. I learnt this over couple of days and many pages of notes. I will compile my notes and if possible share it here once done. Thanks Kunal for this awesome course.

This is really helpful kunal. I am currently doing your dsa bootcamp and it is actually wonderful the assignments you provide for practice. I have just finished arrays(the initial few videos) and i am really getting a deep understanding about dsa via your videos and the leetcode questions you provide for practice. Hope i am able to stay consistent with all this quality content you are providing us with . Also very excited to pursue this devops bootcamp alongside with java dsa. Also i feel the dsa course u provided can be best utilized if we r consistent with solving assignments as soon as we finish a topic.I intend to do it with my own pace and also love the quality of content you provide for us for free. Keep it up and thanks a lot for this.
