Yes, it brought back a memory. Last year while doing a 10 day challenge, I threw my back out doing standing Uddiyana Bandha. I couldn't hardly move for about two weeks. I've never done it standing again.

@@RefeelYoga Yes, I do it sitting now days. That is the only practice I've ever had a problem with and I really can't say for certain that it was what caused the problem. But that was the only thing I was doing that was different than usual. I was a heavy equipment operator for about 45 yrs, I've throwed my back or neck out just taking a shower. So, I can never really be certain what causes it. I just try to not get too radical with any practice. Thank you for your concern. Keep up with the great videos.

I’d like to express to anyone new to this and reading this, to please make sure all furniture or objects are cleared at least 4 feet in all directions from your space. Please do not underestimate the power of this practice. I had once gone too far, and it I didn’t think I would as sometimes energy can just burst up, and woke up holding my head from almost cracking it open on an edge of a glass table that was a few feet to the right and just laying there thinking…”nice Dean….nice.”

We were camping and it's either the light isn't good, the weather changes, there's smoke or the noise of traffic or people partying... Constant opportunities to practice letting go 😂 So I was very happy that we got to record this one when everything was calm and beautiful.

You're very welcome Pandan! I'm glad that the practice was energizing for you :) I use an app called "Metronome Beats" (on android). It's one of the few metronome apps that I could find that also incorporates a countdown timer. However, I should also note that in my videos I usually overlay a metronome track so that the sound is more clear.

I would say that this is a very balancing practice. There are some dynamic movements and fast breathing which can be more energizing, but there is also Uddiyana Bandha which activates the Parasympathetic and sublimates the energy. Overall, it is likely that you will be both energized and relaxed from this class.

Hey Rachel, so glad to know you've been enjoying to share your practice with me. Thank you! "So Ham", translates to "I am That". It is simultaneously the inner mantra, the ongoing sound behind respiration, as well as the deepest of revelations brought back from those who have caught a glimpse "behind the curtain". Due to the expansive nature of reality beyond the ego, existing beyond the scope of words or the mind itself, it is impossible to define within the limitations of our language. Therefor one who has experienced such an expansion of consciousness can only try to describe the experience poetically as "So Ham"/"I am That".

You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed. Yes, we want to breathe completely, but in a comfortable way. For example, we want to fill to 85-95% and empty to a relaxed void state. But not forcing to have the lungs 100% empty like we do in Uddiyana Bandha, nor 100% full to be causing any extra stretching of the lungs.

Try this class and stopped after about 13 minutes. definitely did not like how we're jumping right into all these funny jerky movements without any kind of stretching or warm up.

Interesting that you experienced it that way. Most of this sequence (sufi grind, spinal flexing, twisting, etc.) would be considered warm up exercises and are generally used to wake up the body for this style of practice.

What happened to the opening mantra. Is this Kundalini yoga as taught by yogi Bhajan or an appropriation?

This is not a sequence from Yogi Bhajan. It's a practice of my own. When I teach Yogi Bhajan's kriyas I do use the Sikh Mantras, but when I teach my own kriyas I prefer to use different mantras and consecrations to avoid confusion.
