Meta E. Fair enough. I never got into that series but I have a close friend who swears by them. And I'm sure if I went looking long enough I could find an NES game that does it. I just thought it was very well done in the game and clever. It's like the old "My jail cell is empty cus I'm clinging to the roof trick.' I've seen it in tons of movies but I can't name a game with it. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, means I don't remember it.

When I was a kid/teenager and started earning my own money, for some reason the NES caught my attention and filled me with joy. Every dime I earned I sunk into my collection and today I own a little over 700 NES carts and every peripheral I could track down at flea markets, yard sales, swap meets and even a few video store closings/surplus sales. One thing that always caused me interest was the business side of cart-making. How much did a game cost to code? How much did a cart cost to produce? Etc. That sort of number-crunching was never in Nintendo Power.
@MadroxMonoxide7778 жыл бұрын
It ran Nintendo $5 or less to make the carts with the board in them. The trick was that they charged the developers out the ass for that service, so they would make a killing. I remember reading that some companies had to pay like $35 a cart for Nintendo to produce them. So if they sold it for 50, Nintendo would make 30 (35-5) right up top, then a percentage of the remaining $15 left over. So essentially, you gave Nintendo a buttload of money, lol.
@larrywolf25098 жыл бұрын
MadroxMonoxide777 Shit dude, I was a poor kid. Game carts at flea markets and yard sales went for five bucks or less. You think anyone is going to buy 90% of these carts for more than that each? Nope.

It seemed like everyone I knew with an NES had Kung Fu, I don't know why it was so prevalent, but based on that I don't know why they wouldn't have brought the sequel over here.
@spartonberry8 жыл бұрын
While the second is a fun game, it's easier compared to the original, I think. They probably would've raised the difficulty if they brought it to America.
@Coff1nf33der8 жыл бұрын
It's usually the other way around. Games that are too hard don't come out in the west or they make them easier.
@spiff22688 жыл бұрын
Super Mario 2, anyone?
@weirdsearchhistory58768 жыл бұрын
I think releasing the version of SMB2 that was released in the USA was a good idea. The Japanese version may have flopped because it was too much like SMB1. SMB2 was a unique game *in the SMB series* and gave Western players new enemies, bosses, playable characters and gaming style . Even though the reason for choosing to release that version in the West was dubious, it still turned out to be a good move by Nintendo.
@Coff1nf33der8 жыл бұрын
Poppa Poppy It's not about what I think. It is what the gaming industry especially back then thought. Do you have any idea how many RPGs never made their way into the west, because it was thought, western gamers are not interested in more complex games. As was stated above me, they even repackaged a totally different game as Super Mario 2, because they thought, that the real Super Mario 2 was way too hard to release in the West.
