A suggestion for a tutorial. Most older folks walk for exercise, and some choose a sword cane for their cane. That presents an interesting situation. When drawn, the person has a light stick in the forward hand, useful for blocking or parrying an attack, and a two foot sword in the back hand, ready for an attacking opportunity. The stick is defensive and for maintaining distance, but it also opens up opportunities for a sword thrust or slash. A tutorial on the basic positions, moves and footwork for this case of dual wielding would be interesting and useful. Thanks.

The sword you use is oxtail dao, which is mainly used by police in 19th century and kungfu training. This dao is great at cutting meat but unable to chop armor. You can use yanmadao if you wants more power. Besides these one-hand messer, you can use two-hand dao "miaodao" which is copied from odachi in 16th century, but the techniques of miaodao is really different from odachi.

Hello Sifu! Can I try those moves with a machete? It looks very similar to that chinese sword
@SifuKuttel6 жыл бұрын
Yes, these movements are for single edged swords, so a machete would work just fine.

Thanks! The sword I use in this video is pretty old so I don't think you can find the exact same blade these days. The closest version is: www.kungfudirect.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_118_119&product_id=101 But recently I have found really great Dao from LK Chen: lkchensword.com/niu-wei-dao lkchensword.com/yan-ling-dao lkchensword.com/qi-ja-yao-dao These swords are more historically accurate and they are made very well. If you are planning on doing regular forms and technique practice, I suggest that you get the non-sharpened blade. The sharpened swords should be used for cutting practice only.
