Thank you for this easy tutorial and explanation. I was doing the pass from both shoulders back to back and it seemed slow and not smooth but having the transition you showed makes practice smoother. I need to increase my reach flexibility and it will become easier with time and practice.

Do you have any tips on catching the fan when it's open
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 3 күн бұрын
The main thing to pay attention to is the base of the fan where everything is fastened together. That is going to be the heaviest part of the fan and where you should be catching it. I have a full playlist of fan techniques including tossing and catching, you might find what you're looking for there: kzbin.info/aero/PLB_2FAZlJ_bfzfN_7iFs6wDg6z6GcZLXU&si=S0FmtAkU8oGJLly6

It's pretty much the same, it's a calabash "bottle gourd" or Húlu and was commonly used as a liquid storage bottle. It represents good health in feng shui, and has been often represented as a magic item in traditional Chinese and Japanese folklore, to pull in and contain people or spirits.

I seriously wish I had dedication to pursue ONE martial art...Sifu K any tips on how we can start, maintain and keep up the practice? It's also hard when one has limited outdoor space. My teacher was practicing in the park with a wooden fake sword and police showed up pointing guns 😮
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 20 күн бұрын
Oh wow! That's a tough one, some places are easier to train outdoors than others. If you are limited on space, then instead of doing large combinations, focus on individual techniques and practice them to develop familiarity, speed, power and then add simple elements like stepping forward, back, or to the side to perform the technique, and then stepping and turning 45, 90, or even 180 degrees. It's more work on your end to get creative, but it pays off!

The flexible ones are pressed steel with some extreme distal taper which gives them the wobbly effect. Aluminum wouldn't be able to spring back and would just hold it's bent shape 😅

Sifu, Great video and an amazing tutorial. I'm just wandering what the application of the linked swing is in combat aside from forms
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel Ай бұрын
I think our interpretation is wrong as far as to who's weapon is hooked. Most applications are directly based on the form of hooking your own sword and swinging it around at someone which seems just too impractical to me, more of a last ditch effort at best... however, and this is just speculation, considering that hook swords are used for disarming opponent's weapons, maybe the application is pulling your opponent's weapon away and keeping yourself safe in the process?
