I think it doesn't even matter what style you do, moving your body up/and down with each breath is just totally unacceptable - ESPECIALLY IN GOJURYU. Also, teishotsuki jodan should show the same hand/palm rotation as every other tsuki. Moving the hand in the same position makes no sense .. That is my point of view, sorry. (Just for the record, I am okinawa style gojuryu karateka)

Thanks for your comment. As always, there will be differences in the way things are performed/taught depending on lineage and teacher. Of course possibly the most important aspect of Tensho kata is how it supports other aspects of one's karate, and ultimately how it adds to one's combative effectiveness. With this in mind what would you say are the important principles of Tensho kata, how, in concrete terms, does it add to one's effectiveness combatively?

The person posting the comment is only interested in saying something negative in light of your generosity in information sharing. Typical armchair quarterback nonsense that does nothing to further this discussion. The term for this is (pardon my language) is: shit-posting. That is where someone comes in from nowhere, takes a "dump" on whatever topic is available - then ghosts, never to be seen or heard from again.

@@axiomselfdefensefitnessllc3737 In my experience people who have been around a bit come to the realization that just because they do something a certain way, it doesn't mean there isn't an alternative method. It's unfortunate that some people are so entrenched in their 'own' way that anything else must just be 'wrong'. The points he makes could have lead to an interesting discussion and perhaps an opportunity to learn something new for everyone involved. Oh well. Thanks for your comment.
