IDk who'll ever read tis but I think that, to be practical, we have to explain the footwork, the potential counters and most importantly the relevance of x technique over y technique ; your tutorial isn't waste at all but I've asked myself what was the advantage of cannon fist over a cross or overhand. Fortunately I've found out for myself (for those who wander, pls ask), but I see that the lack I've just talked about harms the traditional martial arts community

I read all my comments🤙. Unfortunately, it's not the style, but rather the people who practice the art along with the lack of conviction by the instructors who have given kung fu or traditional martial arts a bad name. I have some new vids for you to check out. I hope these help a little. Thank you for your comment 🙏🙏🙏🤙 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGbacmCnjtCFhKcsi=r_cEOq-LLFFR9R9s

I wish there was a kung fu fighting tournament where you have to use applied kung fu. WAY BETTER then mma.

It could be done but not on the bouncy stage in MMA. Also, the no kick to head when opponent's knee is on the floor must be removed. Venue on hard stage, on the field or on road pavement fight. MMA gloves that exposed fingers allowing all hands technique is allowed. The no hit to back of head applies except when opponent exposed on purpose. Current MMA cage fight and the rules favor wrestler or grappler more as the soft bouncy floor would make hard stance kungfu sticking to ground and become less flexible.
@cameronforbes2649
@cameronforbes2649 8 жыл бұрын
Good point about the bouncy surface vs. Kung Fu's more hard stances. MMA does control for clothing, time, weight, lighting, environment, and multiple attackers and is in many ways a false dichotomy. At least that's my speil about it.

Cameron Forbes i'm still waiting for mma to fight real kungfu in actual street fight where it is fair for both. There's reason why mma doesn't dare to fight real fighters in street fight, always try to lure challengers to fight in ring follow mma rules. The mma guys probably knew without referee pampering, their mma won't work like the many cases where mma lost in fight for survival

Van Damme it's better to practice something than sit down spewing nothing. This "doesn't work " criticizm is getting old, doesn't work in what way ? The brawling and foreign objects used by the guys in Brazil to knock out the two mixed martial artisists at the gas station seemed to work just fine. The rise in popularity of mma has been enlightening in some ways and in some ways has brought people's minds back to the dark ages. Some before starting the Mma bjj Mt > everything else in the world don't stop to think that combat sports are different from traditional martial arts and that a boxer in a wrestling ring with wrestling rules would be a fish out of water. Likewise a mixed martial artist with no military training would be a fish out of water as proven sometime ago when ufc members went and did some navy seal training. I could go on all day a soldier vs an Olympic fencer in the Olympics would loose, an Olympic fencer with a stick in his hand vs an African stick fighter would loose, a soldier skilled in Krav Maga vs 5 brawlers in prison might do some damage but just might die when one of them sticks that Sharped object in his gut. What's my point? Fighting is complexed so don't be so quick.

+Van Damme Better go back to Hollywood for films, oh no, wait, you are too much old for that today. Wushu (real name for chinese martial arts, Kung Fu means another thing), is very effective for the street if you know how to do it. The problem with the most traditional martial arts, It is not trainning real combat. Sanda works real combat and it is very effective. Before you write shit, look Cung Le combats in UFC, stupid. It is Wushu, but free combat. What's more, I'll tell to you one thing. I have used Wushu sport on the street and it worked. It influences much the aggressiveness and the confidence that you have. These techniques include stomping to the feet, kicking the shins or genitals, blows with the base of the palm to the jaw, etc...

What is the point of throwing the arm back instead of using it to guard your head? I have to wonder if this may be more of a grappling move because it doesn't make much sense to me in the context of striking. If it is recontextualized as an arm drag *into* a strike, then it makes more sense to me. You have control of the wrist, and use the cannon punch to pull them into your strike - that pull would then guard you since the wrist control would temporarily prevent them from rotating properly to hit you.
@AuthenticShaolin
@AuthenticShaolin 11 ай бұрын
Great question. The reason for the right arm drag is to push the blocked arm out of the way and create a torque movement for more power to the punch at your opponent I hope that helps. Side note- if he does grab that arm, grabbing and pulling back would also work very well. Thanks for the input. 🤙🤙🤙

I love Kung Fu. Multiple Grand Champion, studied in China. 20+ years. BUT, anything related to joint locks is nearly impossible in real combat, unless you are fighting a quadriplegic. My favorite criticism is toward Akido (not KF), in which they have great joint locking in demonstrations, but ZERO joint locking in actual sparring/combat. In particular, when the 'victim' stops moving, all reality disappears, because an effective opponent would not stop.

Ya loooks like techniques you can only really use if you are already winning and faster. I think the double cannon fist eye jab thing ur doing is for multiple attackers you only really need to fly both hands for balance and multiple people feints. Like you know you have 3 seconds before the guy behind you will reach you so you throw out a caution double jab in each direction to see what is next.

You might like this one.... My boss in the 1980's told of when he was in Japan with the marines. They were doing push ups, sets of 50. But these were different, they stood straight and put their hands down 2-3 feet in front of themselves. Then in this bent over position they did 50 push ups. One big Marine complained: " I'm not going to have a little girl teach ME self defense! " she walked over to him and stood right in front of him and gave him an upper cut type of punch up at him. She knocked him out for a half an hour 😀. if you try these push ups...put a pillow down in front to pad your fall.

2:00 I don't see this ever working. Why would you expect to deliver 4 blocks+strikes before they have finished 1 punch? Why would an enemy stand there with their arm out while you deliver strikes to their arm and then bend them over? If you are that much faster than them you could do virtually anything. Steal their belt, tie their laces together You won't usually know a punch happened until after You're supposed to deliver all of this before the opponent has finished their punch? It's not going to work...

Can you explain why the Cannon Fist utilizes the counter motion of the non-striking arm? I would like to understand why you would utilize this form of strike over other strikes. BTW... love you videos! Thanks!
@phoenixwire100
@phoenixwire100 8 жыл бұрын
The counter motion from the cannon fist allows the body to produce full torque to efficiently apply force to the opponent. The rear arm acts like a lever to keep the practitioner from losing balance doing the cannon fist. Thanks for the love!!!
@hsinhaowang
@hsinhaowang 7 жыл бұрын
What Phoenix said, and it's a transferred thought from swordplay that uses the motion as a counter balance, and again, for the reason Phoenix stated. And for certain style preferences, the retracting hand is grabbing and pulling your opponent's arm. Controlling their arm and pulling them into the strike.
@kepheramanjet3244

Forget all those other commentators. You use counter motion to generate power from the waist. What the instructor is not demonstrating is how to use the technique spontaneously and against someone who is just not punching.

phoenixwire100 it consists of my experience and the mind sets of various Martial arts its something that is common to all but unique to me, I don't know if u get what I mean, in IP man terms I practice the spirit of martial arts, so I don't belong to a particular denomination understand, so I would simplify it as it consists of everything that comes in to contact with my eyes directly or indirectly, as long as it is effective I can copy and adapt in or out of combat, I don't like sport fighting or fighting with pads or gloves, to me its not real or effective or rather it limits ones potential to excell even the same as sticking to one mindset of fighting which also puts limits on the fighter.

I'm a multiple grand champion in multiple styles of Kung Fu. But, if it were really more effective than the best MMA fighters, then MMA fighters would use more KF techniques. That's a fact of life. I love Bagua. But, when I search "Bagua vs (any other style of martial arts)", it performs worse than anything. It can still help for fighting, and is still a great meditative practice, but we have to keep it honest. All these zealots say "KF is so dangerous that other fighters or rules or whatever can't handle it". There are no absolutes. If KF were so deadly that it's too dangerous or limited, that would be a copout. If KF were so effective, then even on a limited scale you would see effectiveness against MMA guys, and we have rarely seen it. The devil's advocate: That said, when fighting multiple people, everything changes. For example, if you're used to going to the ground, you're screwed in real life against multiple people, because you can only grapple one person at a time while everyone else is conveniently kicking you in the head. KF teaches you to stay on your feet. Tai Chi is amazing but it takes a decade to use it for fighting. Who wants to wait that long? (uhh me) Also, the best way to train MMA is to spar with people. But, then you're getting injured all of the time. At the end of the day, if one guy did MMA only, he'd be ruined in 10 years or less, but would be a better fighter more quickly than most other styles. If another guy did just KF, he can do it for a life time, but he'll get his butt kicked in the short run lol, and outlast everyone in the long run. If you don't believe me, go watch the hundreds of thousands of elderly people doing amazing KF in parks all over China at sunrise. Amazing.

Great comment. Thanks for sharing. This video was to show the martial application on a modern level. Mma has developed great fighters for a long time. I have competed internationally and won with doing sanda. I have seen many styles of fighting. They all have wonderful things to offer an individual to make them great. This video was to show that form and function are most important when learning a martial skill. Thanks again for the comment.
