My oldest sister who passed away this yr, bought this game for me when I was about 11 yrs old. Just hearing you explaining this and watching you playing it makes me want to pull my NES out of my closet! Lol! I grew up on Nintendo! So this game along with Mega Man, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Super Mario Brothers, and Tecmo Bowl games will always have a special place in my heart! 👍

If you still have it, I would highly recommend it. I went to my parents house and dug my old consoles out of the attic a few years ago. I've got them all set up in my basement now and I play them regularly. I really enjoy them but my kids want nothing to do with them LOL Sorry about your sister

Being a home computer kid, I only played this in the arcades as Kung Fu Master, but this video really took me back even though I am kind of garbage at the game xD. Great video and presentation as always. I could never nail the knife-guy timings on the arcade, but I did enjoy it all the same. It's actually probably one of the last games I played 'for real' on an arcade machine too as up until about 2005, a local pub had one in the pool room along with a Super Space Invaders and a Double Dragon. If you fancy more Kung Fu, Kung Fu Master on the Gameboy is yet another different version of the game, and probably my favourite over the arcade mode. It's got more settings, and fun enemies like a Jason clone with a giant chainsaw. I always also thought that Green Beret/Rush'N'Attack and Ninjawarriors took this kind of game far further forward than Vigilante, which to me was just Kung Fu Master with slower gameplay, cheaper enemies but improved 16 bit graphics. Sidebar, it's sad that Kung Fu 2 never happened, but weirdly I've seen a Spartan X 2 doing the rounds for the Japanese Famicom? Is that a hack or the real deal?

I remember kung-fu growing up as a kid! my uncle had the NES and I just fell in love with the system... that game and most all of the 'black box' lineup I just loved it all! To this day I'm not super good at the game though, lol the 4th floor with the flying things gets me every time! I did play a rom of the Japanese sequel, seemed to be mostly the same game just new levels, music enemies and graphics! kinda fun I do recommend checking it out if you liked the first game.

I literally had hundreds of NES games growing up unfortunately this wasn't one of them, and only had the chance of playing this game once at a friend's house.. watching this video makes me want to search the net for a copy of this... awesome video! 👍

This video is incredibly timely. I actually just picked it up on Saturday for $4. The cart I bought does work, however, more often than not, I play NES on an emulator or my NES mini that I have loaded with the full catalog. Last night I played till the end of the 2nd level and then saved state. I will play some more later tonight and keep your tips in mind. Great video as always!

Glad you found it for a good price Matt. Kung Fu is a must have for the collection.

Saturday Supercade was my favorite show back then. I'm leaning toward the Mr. X in that episode being unrelated, though. I never got the feeling that the show's writers were video game fans to the degree that they'd make a reference that elaborate. Plus, they had to invent a ton of random throwaway bad guys each week.

I played this game so much when I was a kid. I never got very far, but I remember it fondly.

Great game! I just played Kung Fu Master at an arcade recently. Kung Fu was the first game I got for the NES(not including the pack in Gyromite and Duck Hunt) and Vigilante was the first game I got for the TurboGrafx-16.

Just stumbled on your channel. I have a 6 year old I share in my love of retro and he loves it all. I want to push my kid towards retro because of the fear of microtransactions in modern gaming. Very well done and produced video.

I could get to the end easy but never cared to try it again. This was one of my first games on the NES and I remember it well. I never even knew there was an arcade version. I don't remember seeing it in the arcade. After watching this makes me watch to go play it again.

Loved Kung Fu. Never really thought about this as the progenitor of the beat em up genre

Great video. I learned something, thanks! This game goes way back for me. I loved the arcade, played the heck out of it at a bar while my friend's parents drank. The NES hit and this game was the very first game I got for it.

The music fantastic. Also, Mr X's laugh between levels, my cousins and I, we would all imitate it as an inside joke when one of our uncles made a bad dad joke or something.

Bro I was there, played this night and day. Played it first in the arcade and had to pay quarters. Later came Ninja Gaiden on NES and it was heaven.
