Kungsleden 2023 Day 2 Abiskojaure to Alesjaure and beyond

Blessed with a rare sunny day for our first full day of hiking, we take in some of the gorgeous lake and and river views that the Kungsleden has to offer.

Very nice so far! What kind of elevation were you at? And are you always pretty close to a village or something? Seems like a lot of wooden walkways and nice bridges.

We aren't near a village. They bring in a lot of those materials in the winter time when they can use snowmobiles. Elevation isn't that high. Around 3,000 ft. But the higher the latitude the lower the tree line, and we are quite far north.

What date did you start your hike? I know you were finished by September 12. On September 12 the sunrise - sunset data for Abisko Nationalpark shows that Astronomical Twilight lasted "Rest of night". Interesting data. It looks like the days were not unusually long, but the nights not particularly dark either. It must have been quite an experience for you.

We started August 19th. In the 3 weeks we hiked, the amount of daylight changed pretty drastically. Those first nights the sun did drop below the horizon but it never got completely dark.
