Monster is also about how no one can be a complete monster. Even Johan was human; the ending of the series made a point about how all he wanted was forgiveness. Bonaparta also was very human as well. He ran away from his terrible actions and tried to find redemption in that small town. He was very kind to the kid that got bullied (Vim), and tried to live peacefully. "Monster" can be interpreted as an ironic title since every character (or monster) was ultimately human.

Watch the video titled "Monster Ending Explained." Johan's plan was for Tenma to kill him after everyone in the village dies. Forgiving Johan for his actions is the way to ruin that plan. I don't believe he wanted forgiveness, but it's up for debate

Finished watching Monster a few minutes ago. I don't even know how to express the immensity of feelings and thoughts that I'm going through right now... It baffles me how some people find the likes of clannad and angel beats to be the best and their favorite. I mean i enjoyed them, but this anime was on a league of its own. It was one hell of a thrill ride. I never wanted it to end but it had to. This was a very beautiful anime!
@DarkCyberElf
@DarkCyberElf 9 жыл бұрын
Clannad Afterstory (just the second season) is masterful storytelling (which of course, relies on the first season's events, but still), Angel Beats! is not however. Angel Beats would have been grand if it was the same length as Clannad, but unfortunately the pacing is inevitably weak, not to mention the world isn't expanded on enough (with the OVA really a major source of confusion). I can see why Clannad is considered one of the best animes (despite the tropes, cuteness, and melodrama), but Angel Beats is overhyped, despite its many moments of greatness. Naoki Urasawa's Monster on the other hand is a true work of art, both manga and anime, and should be treated as such. It is slower and more unfocused at times than a show of similiar length like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but all of it was necessary for the narrative. It's not in my personal top 10 animes (due to the lack of an entertainment factor and length), but it's certainly a candidate for the top 10 animes ever made. One thing is certain however: Monster is the most sophisticated anime ever because it has literally zero tropes and basic character archetypes, doesn't rely on the supernatural in order to be interesting, and boasts one of the greatest villains and greatest heroes in all of anime, no matter how little attention either of them get in that regard.

One of the best series I've seen. The writing is top shelf, the characters have such a poignant humanity to them, even the ones supporting the story only for one or two episodes (the guy for whom Roberto was working, the first time he appears, for example). The OST is absolutely stunning, and I, as a musician and composer, couldn't imagine a better musical frame, and this particular piece always managed to hit an emotional summit. The composer is truly versed, and the way he uses woodwinds with the strings main sound is masterful. There is such complexity, such sadness, such fragility and loneliness, it is really a masterpiece.

I took a 5-year hiatus from back in 2015 when watching Monster. I believed I watched the first episode but I dropped it for unknown reasons. Every year I keep telling myself, this is the year I will watch it but I always forget about it. I want to thank Grarkada(GlassReflection) talking about it in one of his recent videos and I instantly went on a binge on watching Monster. I loved it from start to finish. It's not anime for everyone but once you watch it you will be able to appreciate a lot of things about it. I regret not watching this earlier.

Don't regret not watching it earlier -- it wasn't time yet ❤ NAOKI URASAWA: ‘One book can change someone, it can make them a better person and then maybe that changed person can save the world. I want to be the person who does that.’

This man is one of the most amazing composers of soundtracks i've ever listened in my life... beautiful music, very emotional and feeling evocative at all time... one of my favourites are Drift Mind and Gossip... Pretty wonderful music!

This is that one kind of anime in which I’d wish it would continue and never stop, even if it’s full of fillers

I agree that it's not commendable what Bonaparta did, but it was human. Humans realize when there are problems, and when they are too big for them to solve they run away from them; where as a true monster wouldn't care. Bonaparta was also really kind to that poor kid Vim, I thought he was a really nice guy before I found out he was actually Bonaparta. What I'm saying is that Bonaparta might not be a good person, but he isn't a monster.

As an INFJ (Johan's personality), this anime really hit me and made me greatful for being brought up in a good household. I could see the tendencies Johan had, all dormant and seemingly evil.

idk what people’s problem with the first few episodes is, i went into the show knowing it was a crime thriller so the first few episodes of build up didn’t bother me at all, in fact they made me more excited for the first inevitable twist
