Amazing. If someone can make a fight agaist Grigorian look easy it would be just Yodsanklai. Grigorian has a bomb for a right arm and Yod strategy was so simple, destroy that power arm completely with power kicks. It was painful to watch all that beating to his right arm.

If only more kickboxers would just learn to teep and prioritize their low kick abilities as much as their jabs and hooks. Rob Kaman figured out the power of capable low kicks long ago but kickboxers still fall back on that Andy souwer/masato kickboxing model.

@@calska140 the southpaw roundhouse is literally the equalizer in muay thai. marat has a strong guard. very hard to catch him with clean shots. yod had the perfect gameplan. if you cant find a hole in the defensive wall. then you pound that wall til it breaks.

We all know Yod is a powerhouse kicker, but wats underrated in this fight is jus how tough marat is. 70+ kicks to the same place in his right hand and he was still standing there absorbing it by the end of the fight. Furthermore, he still went on the offensive and got a few good punches in.

I didn't know Yodsanklai was only 5'7. Thought he would be 5'10-6'0 but at the end when he was holding the trophy the 2 girls were both much larger than him. Legendary fighter though. Glad he got at least one big payday when he won the contender series.

Leaning heavily on boxing in a kickboxing match with yodsanklai. That's a dangerous proposition. Yod may not be a boxing born specialist but his hands are some of the scariest in MT. Plus he's got the rest of the MT toolset honed and trained to a very high degree that he can dismantle you with. Basically: want to beat yod? Do you have hand power and chin comparable to coban, Teeps and low kicks comparable to buakaw, movement and flexibility comparable to saenchai? No? Not even close? Just don't get in that ring, man.

I think he was more than a little traumatized. They've been cultivating incredible hand to hand warriors in Thailand for a very long time. Muay Thai was meant for nothing less than war. Not a sport, not a dance, not an exhibition. But killing the enemy in battle in lieu of weapons.Traditional Thai Boxers have toughness and strength meant for a much tougher world. Just look at Nowveed vs Le Banner or Kaoklai's fights against giants. No one in kickboxing would do these matches and they would lose handily if they did.

Sittichai is dominating Glory in a spectacular fashion with the riundhouse kick, Yod as well, it's amazingly simple and destructive tool. As long as kickboxers try to defend the Thai roundhouse kick with their arms they are doomed to lose. Even in my weak sparring games, when I kick a guy 5-10 times in the arm he complains he can barely punch with it.

Lopez Bunch I m also a lowkicker and that works in the beginning but trust me middle kicks are far more effective if executed properly. Thai masters of the middle kick are so good that you might be able counter in the beginning as marat but once pain kicks in after a few of them, you also get pushed away by them, bringing you in a distance where your legs havent got enough reach to instant counter. But lowkicks work well enough ahainst foreigners so I stick to those.

@@Naak-lz4rh Thai Boxers have mostly incorporated better boxing skills into their art. But western kickboxers have not bothered to learn from Muay Thai and place higher priority on stronger kicking skills. It's baffling. Oh well. All that means is any Muay Thai fighter can stand on the outside and just low/mid kick you into submission. Kinda sad.

Lol @ his early attempts to overwhelm yodsanklai with boxing combos. Did he watch any tape on yodsanklai? You picked the wrong Thai boxer to try that on. yodsanklai won't just cover up and let you pick your shots, yodsanklai will slip a counter in there and put you to sleep. Take a page out of mike zambizis JWP, and Ramon Dekker's book: keep your combos small and use your hand skills to pick good shots and work the body.
