KURANDA SCENIC RAILWAY (Video No. 4) - Queensland Rail KSR Trains at Kuranda & Cairns Queensland

A visit to Queensland Rail's Kuranda Scenic Railway during the wet season! We initially look around the beautiful station at Kuranda, nestled amid the ancient rain forest. The two afternoon trains to Cairns depart at 2pm and 3.30pm, both led by a pair of 50 year old QR 1720 Clyde diesel locos, one still sporting QR 'Broncos' livery. We then catch up with the 15.30 train pounding along the fast stretch of line between Freshwater and Cairns, very close to Cairns airport. Finally, we see the empty coaching stock from the same train making it's way through the Cairns suburbs on its way back to the depot. Unfortunately, the extreme heat and humidity this day had taken it's toll on my usual camera which had steamed up internally, rendering it temporarily useless! Fortunately, I had access to a good quality camera phone but, given my lack of experience with this device, I wasn't able to zoom as smoothly as usual, for which I apologise. ¡Una visita al Kuranda Scenic Railway de Queensland Rail durante la temporada de lluvias! Inicialmente miramos alrededor de la hermosa estación en Kuranda, enclavada en medio de la antigua selva tropical. Los dos trenes de la tarde a Cairns salen a las 2 pm y las 3:30 pm, ambos conducidos por un par de locomotoras diésel QR 1720 Clyde de 50 años, una de las cuales todavía luce la librea QR 'Broncos'. Luego nos ponemos al día con el tren de las 15:30 que avanza a toda velocidad por el tramo rápido de la línea entre Freshwater y Cairns, muy cerca del aeropuerto de Cairns. Finalmente, vemos el vagón de vagones del mismo tren que se abre camino a través de los suburbios de Cairns en su camino de regreso al depósito. Desafortunadamente, el calor y la humedad extremos de este día habían hecho mella en mi cámara habitual, que se había empañado internamente, ¡dejándola temporalmente inservible! Ein Besuch der Kuranda Scenic Railway von Queensland Rail während der Regenzeit! Wir sehen uns zunächst in der wunderschönen Station Kuranda um, die sich inmitten des uralten Regenwaldes befindet. Die beiden Nachmittagszüge nach Cairns fahren um 14.00 Uhr und 15.30 Uhr ab, beide angeführt von zwei 50 Jahre alten QR 1720 Clyde-Dieselloks, von denen eine noch die Lackierung QR 'Broncos' trägt. Dann holen wir den Zug um 15.30 Uhr ein, der auf der schnellen Strecke zwischen Freshwater und Cairns hämmert, ganz in der Nähe des Flughafens von Cairns. Schließlich sehen wir den leeren Waggonbestand desselben Zuges, der auf seinem Weg zurück zum Depot durch die Vororte von Cairns fährt. Leider hatte die extreme Hitze und Luftfeuchtigkeit an diesem Tag ihren Tribut von meiner üblichen Kamera gefordert, die innen beschlagen war und sie vorübergehend unbrauchbar machte! Glücklicherweise hatte ich Zugriff auf ein qualitativ hochwertiges Kamerahandy, aber aufgrund meiner mangelnden Erfahrung mit diesem Gerät konnte ich nicht so reibungslos wie üblich zoomen, wofür ich mich entschuldigen möchte. My goodness, that livery is ... what's a polite word. Colourful. Let's settle for colourful. Nice semaphore bracket signals.

Yes...it’s definitely colourful Andrei. I think the blue is based on the Ulysses butterfly , something of a symbol for the area. And the livery is finished off with local indigenous designs. All points and signals are mechanical, controlled by a frame in the signal box on the platform. It’s lovely to hear the clunking of levers and rods again.
