Kurasu comes from the Japanese word “to live” or “lifestyle.” Starting as an online homeware store, we are now globally recognized as the premier shop selling Japanese coffee brewing equipment and feature a subscription service partnering with specialty coffee roasters from around Japan.
We serve specialty coffee in our shops in Kyoto, Singapore, and Bangkok. In 2021 we moved our roastery cafe from Fushimi Inari to Nishijin. We’re currently roasting with a Giesen W6A and Loring S35 Kestrel ™.
Our aim is to showcase Japanese coffee culture to the world through introducing coffee products, roasters, and our own roasts. We are a coffee equipment retail store, cafe, coffee roaster, and a medium for specialty coffee culture.

This updated version is like a hybrid of old version and Tetsu Kasuya’s method, I guess.

Hi and thank you! Yes this recipe can be used for medium roast as well. For your reference, we use 16g of coffee and grind them finer for dark roast so please adjust to find the best taste for you :)

Hi Kosuke, hi Reika. Thanks for the video. Yesterday you told me to read your blog series, which I did that, it was informative. I use Lavaza coffee beans from Italy, Medium roast. On the bag shows pictures that mean you can use this beans for espresso and filter coffee. My questions are: 1- if you want to use 11 grams of that medium roast bean for V60, what's your recipe? 2- do you think is it a good idea to use that beans for v60 ? 🙏

Hi thank you for checking out our blog series! We can't give an exact answer for your specified coffee, but please try keeping the ratio of 1 to 12.5~1 to14! Would love to know what you think about it with V60!

We recommend using extra 2g of coffee beans (16g in total) and grinding them finer. Hopefully in the near future, we can shoot a talk on dark roast coffee in depth!

Hello, what would you recommend for grind setting on a Fellow Ode Gen 2? Your recommendation of 25 - 30 on a Commandante seems like it is closer to a medium grind rather than a coarse one. This sounds closed to a 6 on the Ode Gen 2. Thank you for any input, I love Kurasu!

Hi, thanks for the video. Please give us recipe for medium roast bean. If I want to use 14 grams medium roast bean what should I do? If you can make a vidio of that. 🙏

Hello, thought it would depend on the coffee beans please try brewing with the same recipe of coffee 14g:water 200g, and perhaps increasing beans and grinding them finer if you want more body of a darker roast coffee :)

@@KurasuKyoto Thanks for replying. But I get confused. You are using light roast, and I am using medium roast ( not dark roast), but you are seeing grind it finer ? Grind medium roast finer than light roast ? I though you are going to say grind it coarser . Can you please explain for me? 🙏

@@KurasuKyoto If I understand correctly, you mean : For medium roast: 200 grams water ( 91 °c). 15 grams beans, Grind a little finer . Is that correct?
@KurasuKyoto

@@mshah556 Hello, we actually use 16g of coffee at finer grind for dark roast coffee in our cafes. This is because we want to bring out rich body of dark roast coffee, while we want a clean taste for light roast. If you would like to feel the body of coffee, please try using extra coffee at finer grind like you have mentioned. If you find it makes the coffee too strong want a more clean taste, please use less. There's no correct taste for coffee, so we hope you find what suits your palate!!
