This is a very interesting documentary video of the master Klemperer's last concert on September 26, 1971, including rehearsal scenes, interviews with those involved, and testimonies from the master himself. The second half of the video includes the actual performance of Brahms' Symphony No. 3 in the first movement, which will be uploaded at a later date.
Wonderful. Such a genius Klemperer was. A man who met Mahler himself. Like the last bearer of the romantic and the early modern era. My favorite conductor. Who always went to the bottom of things, combined beautiful sound with clarity. In my opinion, there is no one higher. Except Mahler himself maybe (and Wagner or Bach as conductors).

I'm not a very modern creature, but thanks to video and film to give us such fantastic moments. How to make real music. Like in the nineteenth century. This is priceless.

Herr Klemperer why do you conduct with a score? Why not? I can read music!
@leestamm3187 Жыл бұрын
I've always found that to be a thoroughly pointless question. The quality of the performance is the measure of a conductor. It has nothing whatever to do with whether or not they use a score. A multitude of great maestros, including Mahler, have conducted with score.

His SON...When they first came to the US Otto was involved in helping start the Los Angeles Philharmonic.....and while they were in LA, Werner started acting. @@peterheisler4648 John Banner WAS a survivor. At first he wasn't sure he could play the part. But Klink and Schulz weren't NAZIS. They were just German Army soldiers and trying to survive without getting sent to the Russian front. A coupla times Hogan and Company saved them from getting sent there! It was indeed a funny show about a time in history where it might have been hard to laugh. Werner also played MEAN Nazi Emil Hahn in JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG. Interestingly....Werner served in WW2 in the US ARMY!

Interesting he didn't usually use a baton did he????
@MrKlemps Жыл бұрын
He took up the baton again only in 1967 when recording the B Minor Mass and then used it for the remainder of his career.
