Ever since I first heard this song, I wanted to create an Animatic for it although I kept on procrastinating and almost gave up on the thought of making one.
(After all, the last time that I made something similar to this is... 3 or 4 years ago lol. And that video has a copyright strike fml)

I just realized why I like First Burn more than Burn. Throughout the musical, Eliza is wanting to settle down and is a bit ignorant when it came to love. She trusted a man with a foundation made of his love letters. She was in love with the Alexander presented on a page he wrote to her. Eliza built an emotional wall with the letters to shield herself from the arrogant jerk Alex really was. In Burn, she tears down the wall inside. In her mind, burning the letters was seeing the truth about the man she had fallen for. Nobody but her needed to know her feelings, not even Alex. She only kicked him out of her bed. She's not the powerful yet ignorant Elizabeth Schyler we were introduced to. Her emotional stability was literally and figuratively burned in the fires of sadness and rage. But, in First Burn, she doesn't hold back. Eliza confronts Alex, not to mock him or make him feel more guilty, but to give him a reality check and tell him how she feels and felt throughout their marriage. She was emotional, of course, but she stood her ground. She removed the rose-colored glasses she had been wearing since Helpless. Eliza destroyed not just the letters, but the man who wrote them to build her trust. She finally realized who Alex was. This song kinda explains the line "Why do you assume you're the smartest in the room" from Non-Stop. He thought he was smart. He saw a beautiful legacy being built up around him. When Maria came to him, a wrecking ball crashed into his future. That wreaking ball was Eliza's words telling him he was being dumb. His legacy wasn't something he did, but someone he was close with. Eliza told him his legacy wasn't his, but his children's. Thank you! That's all. Did I get an A+ on my essay?

I'm just going to point out the real letter at 1:09. This is a real letter that Hamilton sent to Eliza on the 8th of August, 1780 and is one of his most well-known letters to Eliza in the middle of their courtship. But this is a sign of an artist who does their research for weird people like me who enjoy historical accuracy - so thank you for that.

I feel they should of kept this version. A lot of peoplr say its jot like eliza but this song shows Eliza as strong and despite wanting to be with alexander and being both sad and angry. Also Eliza is sometimes seen (not too often but ive seen quite a few people say it) as a pushover kind of charecter and this song would eliminate that view

While this is a great song, it wouldn’t have played nearly as well on stage. It’s a version that would work excellently in an animated medium where reality can be stretched and exaggerated, but it’s not suited for a stage performance or even a live action film version. Also, this version plays more as Eliza reacting to Hamilton, rather than her taking control of her own narrative. I do prefer this version of the song for listening and singing along to on its own, but I prefer The regular burn in the context of the show and onstage.

I think the reason why they used Burn instead is because this doesn’t fit Eliza’s gentle and sweet nature. I mean sure she’s mad when she finds out about the affair, but instead she knows that it’s better to voice it out carefully than to yell it all out. Speaking quietly makes someone listen rather than yelling for their attention (Alex I’m looking at you-)

I would say it is all three of their faults. Regardless of who says what, and what happens, it is up to each person to make the right choice. As you favorite saying goes "you are responsible for you". It is Alexander's fault for being unfaithful. Despite any plot against him, he absolutely could have chosen to not be that man, but he didn't. Maria did not have to do it. She could have chosen to say "despite my husband and the troubles we may have, I will not be that women. I will not be unfaithful, nor will I be a homewrecker. Let that fate fall on another women" but she didn't. Yes, it is a hard choice to make in her position, but no one ever said the right thing was the easy thing to do. And her husband is of course at fault for being a piece of trash for even daring to think it was ok to plot something like that. To use his wife as a whore and blackmail a man. The three share the blame equally for all making the choice to engage in this affair.

This was honestly so powerful to watch. You can see the balance of sorrow and anger coming from Eliza, but there’s something else I’ve noticed as well that I don’t see. There was this perfect mix of her knowing she couldn’t, _shouldn’t_ be walking back into Alexander’s arms, but yet longing for it despite the ache. It’s the moments like 2:08 that really demonstrate how much she misses the way her husband was before the war, before his employment as Secretary, before the dreaded Reynolds Pamphlet scandal. She loves and wants him again, but she can’t even recognize him anymore. Alexander also plays a big part in this too, and while not noticeable at first, you can sense and feel the pain and regret in his own eyes too. The sight of his wife falling to pieces because of his own wrongdoings is breaking him, and you demonstrated so well how he longs to try and explain himself, but gets cut off, because this was irreversible, and was life-changing to the point where even the tolerant Eliza couldn’t take it. You can see the heartbreak in his eyes, the fear of all of those memories disappearing of the sweet Schuyler sister, only leaving the despondent and broken Eliza he sees before him, knowing it was his fault in the first place. And then the climax. Oh my god, that last chorus. That still image at 2:27, especially with the fluid movements is absolutely gorgeous and dare I say, breathtaking. Alexander desperately reaching for the disappearing and burning memories before him, but failing to grasp at them. The children seeing the broken down state of their mother, the tears flowing from both of their eyes. The anger, sorrow, longing, regret, bitterness was laced into just forty seconds. Every bit of that ending was absolutely jaw-dropping, and I’m in love with your take on “First Burn”. It’s heart-wrenching, yet for all of the right and wrong reasons. Honestly that really points how how tolerant she was up to this point. She had been seeing other women fawning over him, even saw him pine after her own sister. And she put up with it. But this was the straw that broke the camels back.

There is something about this animatic that I just keep coming back to. I know everyone is discussing Eliza, but I want to discuss Hamilton at the start. We open up on a scene where Eliza is sitting with the lantern, looking at the letters and in comes a rather... empty looking Hamilton. He knew what he was doing, he knew after the fact that he had hurt Eliza much more than he had known, and that is the most realistic part about his expression at the start. It goes from the numbing realization to the tragic, painful recognition of just how much he had hurt her. What he had lost in publishing those letters. It was not just a political loss, but a very personal one. He never believed that he would be satisfied, but as he watches Eliza during this sequence, you can tell that he is slowly deteriorating and the mask he wears to try and hide what he feels finally breaks when he realizes that his legacy, his family, his wife, and his life was affected by the publication. You have shown this flawlessly, and I cannot stop watching it. Eliza... wow. I always felt that no matter how sweet and kind you are, having something like this revealed after so long... you would be angry and lash out, so the regular Burn held less of an effect than First Burn and this animatic shows exactly why. Eliza flips through her sorrow and anger so quick, so readily, that it shows her conflict. Simply starting out, when she says "Don't take another step in my direction" you can tell that she's angry, immediately dissolving into a pained expression of her sorrow. What Alexander had done to her was a betrayal, a pain, she never believed he would have, or could have, done. At 1:34, you can see the shock and pain in her eyes and it is a punch in the gut. But one of my favorite parts of this animatic is the sequence where she starts with "Heaven forbid," because the flashing between Eliza and Alexander draws a parallel that I find extremely interesting. She is justified in her anger, she is justified in her words, and at 1:46 you can clearly see where anger leads you: on the lines of screaming be it for the right reasons (Eliza) or for the wrong reason (Alexander). And the spine chill that I got at 1:52?! Ouch, my heart. Especially since you see Alexander attempt to respond, only to be cut off. He had his time to talk, he had ample time to say something, and now it was Eliza's... and he would hear it. Of course, that's not my favorite part, but definitely a contender. The animatic is just a pure piece of art and I watch it almost daily! I really hope to see more from you, and your art, sometime in the future!!! ♥

That ending expression was STUNNING. Every emotion comes across beautifully in this animatic, but the sheer anger in the last frame blew me away. You can see all of Eliza's raw pain in this, and they way it just culminates at the end is just *chef's kiss* perfect. Well done!

This is hands down the best animatic of this song I've seen to date. There's so many correlations and connections being drawn, and done beautifully so with smooth motion and a video that builds narrative over the pre-existing source material. I get chills a number of times through the video, finding myself pity Alexander, but never able to forgive. I think what really speaks to me is that Alex in this video is a dynamic character. In other versions I've watched, Alex is either static or never really shows up. In this, you can see how hollow he begins. He knows he's messed up, but he doesn't understand the scope of his mistakes. The implications of his actions slowly fill him when Eliza rightfully doesn't give him the time of day to try and explain himself, and he realizes it's too late to stop the fires he's put himself into. At the end, he wants to console her. But by seeing the way he's breaking at the seams, I want to believe it's at least partially because he wants forgiveness (can you imagine), but it's something that Eliza doesn't give him. This whole situation is too far gone and no words, spoken or written, can possibly atone for the things that has transpired due to Alex's recklessness. Now don't get me started on Eliza. She is superbly realistic in this video. I saw so much conflict in her. Other videos portray her to be some fiery ball of vengeance after a little bit of sadness in the beginning. Not here. She's so wracked with grief through the entire ordeal. She's crying through the whole thing. The amount of willpower she's putting forth to destroy any semblance of retribution for Alex isn't something she takes lightly. It was her life too. One that she shared with someone who she devoted herself to. But she goes through. She needs to teach him a lesson. Eliza is determined to make this the penultimate moment. She's done with the bullshit and Alex will feel how she's felt: betrayed, lost, and filled with doubt. These words that he wrote were his story to her, his way of expressing his feelings in the way that he knew best, and it's gone. All gone. And they both know it. Goddamit. I'm gonna watch it again

no, it's not. He screwed up big time and he knows it. Seeing her like this makes him suffer and blames himself. I could literally see in his eyes "what the hell was I thinking by doing this?!?", the way he shakes his head shows that he doesn't want to loose his family: kids and wife and by the end when he desperately tries to reach for her just gets me.
