In the late-nineties, the then-WWF completely reinvented itself and Vince McMahon began overseeing a product that attempted to see just how far it could push the envelope. In WWE's quest to astonish and thrill its audience during the Attitude Era, many a name-brand star had taken daunting risks, sometimes with unnerving and regrettable results.
In fact, McMahon himself found himself looking on in horror at King Of The Ring 2001, when the wrestler enduring an ungodly thrashing was his own son...

Shane is one of the toughest guys in wwe history. As the son of the boss he doesnt "have" to do stuff like this, but he still does it anyway. Props to angle as well for going through all that pain that night.

I got to meet Kurt Angle and take a picture with him at a TNA house show. I wanted my friend to be in the picture, too, but she was having no part of it. When I asked her "Why not?" this was her response, verbatim: "Kurt Angle scares me. It's like he's not human.".

Shane O Mac is the man.... but I am legitimately surprised how either of these guys weren't more seriously hurt than they were. I mean Kurt really is a wrestling machine and Shane could've easily been paralyzed if not killed if things gone really bad 😯. @@YourFavouriteDraugr not really, if someone is trying to tell me people don't get hurt in these matches then I'm going to show them that people do in fact get injured in these matches for people's entertainment. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nah wasn't really a helpful input at all tbh

Like, wrestlers rarely wreck their bodies this bad in WWE so that's why I show this. Sure I could show them one of many classics where a wrestler has unfortunately been concussed but that's not extreme like this is, so that's why I show this match I hope this disrupts the small-minded thinking in your comment 👍

As far as what material it was made of it looks like it was some sort of actual glass, but not plexiglass. Plexiglass is the same type that's used in hockey boards and basketball back boards, and is made to shatter without causing injury. The fact that both were bloody after going through days that it was a glass but probably some sort of tempered glass, or maybe just really thick.

Having watched this live on PPV, Pritchard is a gosdamned liar. That was 100% reinforced glass, and not by just the paint. The second, third and fourth time it was hit and refused to break, you could hear and see how it buckled, that is just something you don't forget. That shit was not normal glass, unless the paint was made of flubber. Also, this is probably the match where all the boys in the back really started paying attention to and respecting Shane as one of them. Considering the Foley-esque bumps and determined insistence on finishing the match huge. It was brutal.
