31:04 Atterberg was a cellist and always wrote the most fun cello parts in his orchestral scores! This piece and his 3rd symphony have some great solo/ soli sections.

And all this is in the autograph of the composer. Crazy.

Really, this was his handwriting? Surely this is a final, engraved, performance-ready version, because this is way too neat. This looks like a copyist's job to me.

@@FreakieFan This was his handwriting! All his later scores (after 2nd symphony?) were reproductions of his autograph.

Welp...that's the sound of true glory in piano form if I've ever heard it. I especially love the mystical, mysterious peekaboo hideaway of the piano melody around 2:39 egged on by the hushed and sneaky conspiring strings.

It's kind of unbelievable that in both records available on KZbin pianists deliberately ignore the 2/8 - 3/8 - 3/8 rhythmic pattern of Andante's secondary theme (18:56 bar 66 onwards) and play something like 3/4 instead of what's actually written in the score.

There’s absolutely nothing redeeming about this work. It’s like a cat got excited & walked all over the keyboard. It’s really a terrible piece. No wonder no major concert pianist or conductor promotes or plays it. It’s pure garbage. Look at where his contemporaries were in the thirties. 👎
