when he shows the bit where he descends through the e major scale. you can avoid stretching your fingers by using 2nd fret D and 1st fret D instead of using 7th fret A and 6th fret A

I like to play it in dropped D starting with a D chord (not barre) (D maj, F#, B, E / Bx3 F/E F/E. (change from his pocket...High E, DDDDDDDD) chorus F#, Dx3, F#, High E, DDDDDD) last riff A string 5/4/2/0 // lowD str. 5/4/2/0. It’s simpler that way and it’s more how Kurt tuned his guitar.

You need to palm mute your guitar, then give the strings a slightly harder strum than normal.

Hi Pat, Do you think it was the "Polly" guitar (Stella 12 with 5 nylons) for this? Is he plugged into a Tascam PortaOne 4track deck or just open mic'd vocal/guitar together? I read it was a 'boombox' but halfway thru Kurt's demo i thought i heard vocal overlap, as if he was doing a few overdubs. Its just interesting to know If Cobain did it in one take or not and what gear was used.

Hello, it is really hard for me to tell how long it would take you because everyone is so different and "how" you practice matters a lot too, but if you just try to get a tiny bit closer everyday you will be able to play it soon enough. Everyday just try to get a tiny bit better and have fun with it! If speed is an issue though, then consider working with a teacher in person or via Skype .

Yes most of the time I use a combination of both when I make that chuck sound. If you want a little bit of extra help with the technique I made a video on "how to play that Chuck sound".

Hi, here is what I do if I'm having trouble. First, I practice the guitar parts until I can "almost" do them automatically. Next, I usually just try to hum the melody of the vocals while playing. This way I don't have to focus on actual words. After that I work on the vocals without playing. Then finally I try to put it all together.
