This is a great interview. Kurt seem laid back, open, somewhat happy. Which of course makes me wonder if this was not long after a shot. I wish we could have gotten him to a place where he didn't need it to feel this way. But I'm happy we have sparks of light like this from him. I wish he would have pulled out of it....

I am older now and everyone i knew that had his personality has died from either suicide or drug overdose. I am starting to think the 90's depression era ruined a lot of happy people lives i think. Just made people feel worse. I also know people that break out crying when listening to Nirvana not because of Kurt...but because this music broke them.

I know my response is outdated (6 months late), but if somehow you see this, JD...you said nothing insensitive at all. Its awful that people feel that they have to feel this way....you said nada-damn thing wrong. To answer your question, (thinking the same thing about Kurt's hair). So, yes that is his true hair color, but his appearance in this video fooled me. I saw this full interview, in a different video a while back and at first sight would have guessed it to be a "younger" (90-91?) Kurt, but the timestamp was 1993, which floored me. Kurt's hair got darker after childhood, and he had it highlighted a bit. My hair is very similar, it doesn't take a lot to bring the blonde back, sometimes just the sun, so it's unnoticeable until it goes darker.

I was born bleach blonde and as I got older especially after puberty my hair turned a lightish dark brown and during the summer I get natural blonde highlights if I'm out in the sun alot. It just happens sometimes.

LOVE his talking voice. Love his singing I don't think he realized how gifted and talented voice. He was modest about it. He speaks so highly of her and she treated him badly later on. People who treated him badly in high school didn't realize what an icon he would become. I can't stand it when people are bullied. He had such an angelic voice. I could listen to him talk all day. He's high on opiates here. A telltale sign is when the user's pupils constrict, which is what you're observing. Mood is also a huge indicator: when a person is noticeably agreeable and/or whimsical in their conversation ("He has a moustache! Huh huh!") , it's a manifestation of the physical euphoria they are feeling. Essentially, if the person is high on opiates, they are physically and mentally at ease with the world. They are comfortable. The user is not discerning or critical in their thought process. That is too much work for someone who is high and enjoying themselves. They weren't rich superstars yet. Once Nevermind hit, Kurt was basically high until his death in 1994. There were brief periods of sobriety, yes, but for all intents and purposes, the guy was a junkie from then on. Pretty sad. I'm seeing other comments here about how people "love his talking voice." Again, what you hear here is subtle, but also a sign of him being on heroin. A user's respiratory function is also in a "laid back" state, so while it is of course functioning, it isn't firing on all cylinders, so to speak. When your heart rate is up, like after a short sprint, and you're made to talk? You're gasping for air and talking on rapid exhales, meaning your pitch is higher. In a state of supreme relaxation, a heroin user is breathing, but it is the opposite of what I've just described. Mentally and physically, the user is calm, so even speaking becomes laborious. Listen to the drawl at 0:32. "We only had to listen like four tiiiiiiiiiiimes. It was guh-reeaaaaat." (Goofy grin) The guy's fucked up here. Anyway, I wrote all that because it's sad to see people glamorizing the traits they don't realize are the result of heavy narcotic use, you know? "Wow! Those eyes! That voice!" Best to know the truth.

@dezessete yeah I remember Dave saying in an interview once that he stopped doing drugs when he was I think 20, so it definitely would’ve been hard on them When you think about it though using drugs to cope with how he felt was all Kurt had really known for a long time. Just how he started smoking weed at 13 to deal with his home life, of course it was going to get worse from there and especially with it being relatively easily accessible with him being a rockstar and all It’s really sad, I just wish I could give him a hug honestly
