Kurt is my all time favorite player and Dane I watched him as a 10 year old Amco cup ,1970,s and his last game Widnes Wembley 1993 he was never injured and was fearless never backed down I remember him taking on the Aussie forwards they hated him because I believe he was more explosive and he was not intimidated by them same goes for Dane I only wish Dane gets on this great podcast

Very true the Kiwi forward packs of the late 1970s and 1980s were if not our best ever certainly the toughest and were men to feared when they pulled on the Kiwi jersey. Lest also not forget front rowers played full 80 minute games in those days not the 50 or so minutes of the modern day player.

Being a Roosters fan, I remember those signings well at the time. Although these were high profile players, they were not the same talents they were 4-5 yrs ago. To make matters worse, the Roosters lost many top players to Manly. What was management thinking?? Interestingly, Freier in his debut as 1st grade coach in 1983 was named coach of the year. But before the 1984 season even ended, Freier was fired. He had one more year as 1st grade coach in 1988 at Wests, but replaced mid season.

I remember staying up to watch Kiwis vs France on TV in 1989. France was a bit stronger than they are these days but Kiwis were heavy favorites but Kiwis were losing to France, until Kurt Sorenson made a break offloaded to Gary Freeman who ran away to score an Kiwis won 16- 12 or something really close like that

@@bokudesu3280 I guess in the moment I didn't think of it as I was shocked that he told me the story at all! Trust me, Podcasting and thinking of things on the spot isn't as easy as you might think. Very easy to say when you've had a chance to watch it and think about it, but doing it live is very different
