If the broncos decided Kevie wasn’t the guy for the job then at least they’ve acted immediately. However the players really need to be smashed with accountability, because all of them played well below their best this year and you can blame the coach all you want, these are professionals who failed to perform, and it’s time the nrl adopted an NFL style salary system where a contract is 80% performance based and 20% guaranteed. Imagine the way they’d play if Walsh was on a $1,000,000 contract but only guaranteed $200,000. The rest is performance based. Tries, try assists, line break assists, line breaks and finals appearances. I’ve said it for a long time rugby league is a professional sport played with an amateur attitude. Excuses like “we just didn’t turn up today” or “we didn’t prepare well” are acceptable in rugby league but would have you cut in any major league around the world like the epl and nfl.

you talk like the broncos have integrity they got maguire on board first then they orchestrated the kangaroo court review just to make it look like they were doing it the right way instead of the skullduggerry that ensued much like at spuths the players are running the club walsh mann etc toxic environment will be successful next year or not , will have nothing to do with what maguire does the players will decide whether they wish to win or lose

@@SonnyListon-e3xwhich is exactly why I’m saying the nrl pay structure needs to resemble the nfl. Minimal guaranteed money and loads of performance based money. I’d be more than happy for every player in the game to make over a million a year. But it’s gotta be performance based.

It's Qld I mean south Qld sorry Brisbane.. the only team that is stable out of Qld is the the cowboys..I think Brisbane is a basket case in the office.. too many chiefs not enough stable hands.. too many outside influences, too worried about making people happy instead of building a group of kids to bring threw into the NRL.... They have nothing to bring other than a brand... Already went from grandfinal 15 mins away from winning to this debarcle now shows the club itself has no spine..... Knights, sharks, dragons, warriors how is it that these clubs have a better jr system then the Broncos because they put it back into the jr systems instead of buying everyone else's good players.....

Why would the Broncos CEO say that Yep Kevs our man in 2025, then made up review comes out backflips on decision?. Remember when the Broncos signed a coach named Siebold on a long term deal... I want to be proven wrong with McGuire but if the Broncos don’t make even the Semis in 2025/26 Do you start looking for another coach. Those Broncos on big pay packets better live up to potential.
@Giveme1goodreason
@Giveme1goodreason 3 ай бұрын
Yep the players need to be held far more accountable, if the club doesn’t feel that Kevin is the man it’s the right call to move on. However I’d also argue to many people have claimed he’s a bad coach. He took us from 16th to 12th to 2nd in 3 years that’s by any standard a success. He slipped back to 12th this year and sackings happen when you go from 2-12. I suspect Kevie is a bit too much of a good guy and like Alfie wants to be mates with the players. Where as what that locker room needs is a boss. Hopefully Madge is that guy and hopefully he encourages an exciting brand of rugby league like Kevin did in the grand final run.

Maybe, but things can turn around pretty quickly when you have the talent. Melbourne got blown out twice in the Finals last year, now they're in a Grand Final. Penrith have a big ? next year with Luai leaving - I know the Panthers have the best juniors pathway system in the comp, but I think they'll miss Luai more than they realise. Brisbane still have a mountain of work to do, starting with Walsh being every bit the defensive turnstile as Darius Boyd.

Mate Kevvie was clearly not up to it. Our success last year was on the back of our assistant coaches who implemented actual game plans. This year, in games where tough decisions needed to be made (bulldogs spreading the ball early on every set) absolutely no tactical changes were made and we got smashed. Then for the last two weeks he says ‘we will play finals’ and the players dished up what they did, they looked confused and had no idea what to do. Kevvie is a good bloke but clearly not a good coach, you’ve got absolutely no idea.

I remember when he coached Origin, and he decided not to pick Billy Slater, and while announcing it, he started crying. What would be different Gus is that probably two players would not leave the Broncos for other clubs and another nine players spend a good part of the season injured on the sidelines, which is exactly what happened this year. All of them star players. What's happened is the playing group surrendered to the constant disruptions and went into self preservation mode. But nobody is talking about them, it's all Kevvies fault. Maguire isn't going to make one shred of difference. God luck with it Madge you're going to need it. Broncos will end next season in the bottom half of the ladder for the same reason, injuries and malcontenet at the club, so what then ?

It was the Board that let three players go from last year. From Day one they didn't have the same comradery on the field and it got worse from there especially post State of origin. Why didn't some of the players heads roll if this "REVIEW" was Rigi Didge. Every one knows these SO called reviews are a Back Engineered decision making back up excuse ( None of it is the Boards Fault). If management had the finger on the pulse and actually knew what was going on in their Roster they shouldn't need this kind of a Doctored excuse. Look at History this Kind of deal doesn't happen in days or even a few weeks. Look at the Broncos performances before and after State of origin.

By round 10 it was obvious that the Broncos weren't going to make the 8. They smashed poor teams but were soundly beaten every time they came up against the Storm, Panthers, Sharks and Roosters (who outplayed them in Las Vegas when they should have been primed to at least compete). When Kevvie started to blame Origin for their form, I knew he was in denial, they were playing below Par well before Origin and if you look at the Origin series it was more often a Bronco that let the Maroons down with a poor pass, missed tackle or poor discipline. The Grand Final loss was also of their own doing. Short drop outs when they were in front, just handed the Panthers the game. One resulted in 6 points and Cleary forcing the other into Touch on the full gave them a penalty and the ball back after it was tied up. Did those tactics come for Kevvie? On top of this he has let a myriad of high achieving players go...Farnworth being one, whose form has only got better. I'll bet letting Hetherington go will be another that comes back to bite them next season. I doubt Maguire will make much difference.

Talk about desperation in signing madge , coaches graveyard at the Broncs , RIP in MADGE 2025 - 2027. Take a leaf out of the Lions playbook , same coach for the last 8 years , lost the 2023 GF and ran 5th in 2024 and won the GF. 18 years without a GF win, the Broncos need to extend the reveiw and do a root cause because something is deeply wrong at the club. Hey lets remove the coach he has to be the problem , right😂

It's a player lazy attitude problem and still getting paid whether they perform or not. Pay should be base wage with performance bonus then they might make an effort. They all want the SOO gig bc they get paid extra per game.

The Lions have been consistently in the top for since Fagan took over as coach. They went from nothings to top 4 in two seasons and have consistently remained there. The Broncos went back terribly this year and if you watched a post game press conference Kev looked almost witless as to what was the reason. That does not instill any confidence in the players. He lost the dressing room, and he knew it, and it was embittering him. The jovial funny guy often has a lot riding under the surface. I liked Kev as coach but this year was bad. Management made the right decision. The team was going backwards fast.

I call BS on the quick & immediate replacement of Kevie within 24hours. Every club has reviews annually regarless of their position on the ladder. Players and coach were accountable at the Bronco's ... Lets face it the issues that are evident with players behaviour on / off and certainly after the end of the season are interesting.

I believe Madge needs to convince Adam Reynolds to retire and sign on as a coach and run this team 1. Selwyn Cobbo - 6"4 2. Israel Leota - 6"3 3. Kotoni Staggs - 6"1 4. Deine Mariner - 6"1 5. Jessie Arthars - 6"2 6. Reese Walsh - 5"10 7. Ezra Mam - 5"9 8. Corey Jensen - 6"2 9. Blake Mozer - 6"0 10. Payne Haas - 6"4 11. Jordan Riki - 6"3 12. Brenden Piakura - 6"2 13. Patrick Carrigan - 6"3 14. Tyson Smoothy - 5"11 15. Xavier Williams - 6"6 16. Benjamin Te Kura - 6"9 17. Kobe Hetherington - ?

The problem is there’s no legitimate halfback. Mam is a running 5/8 and Walsh is a running fullback who can ball play. Unless they get a hooker who can do all the organising from dummy half they can’t really do it.

Ummmm.... what? Yeah good like tryna find a 7 you need a 7. Ezra isn't ready, you need Reynolds to be preliminary final team also playing 2 inexperienced halves? Yeah going to go from preliminary final in my opinion with reyonalds with not making the finals at all

Ezra’s not a 7 , Walsh can’t tackle at fullback so imaging him in the front line piakuri offers nothing as a player broncos won’t be able to keep Staggs or Cobbo one will go

Performance incentives would work but not at 200k guaranteed. Who would play the sport? We're already one of the only high level professional sports globally where most of the top income earners still can't even afford property in the suburbs they play in (If they're in the big cities). You expect a professional athlete can have pick of property, but take a guy on 700k. After taxes, management etc they're only on around 350k. Say the average career is 8 years, that's 2.8mill over 8 years. Median house price in Sydney is 1.6mill, meaning that maybe a top athlete can pay off a very average house by the end of their career. Kind of embarrassing in comparison to other major sports (And the other side of the equation as to why performance isn't as high as the NFL).

My understanding is NFL pay is 20% base and 80% performance bonus. Only way to make some NRL players put in effort is a performance bonus bc some players are on $800k/ year doing nothing on the field. House prices is not the NRL problem, they don't have to make sure players can buy a house. Its a job like everyone else. If they want 600k instead, then perform on the field and get your bonus. Most people would give their right arm to earn $350k/year. Manager fees are part of the job. That's how they get a contract. If they don't like it do the negotiating themselves. Let's go back to the era where players had full time jobs doing other things and then played on the weekend. At least those players wanted to play the game.

@jodiealldridge1547 in that era where players had jobs, weren't they on match payments where winning was worth much more money than losing? Money has to be used as an incentive.

6 coaches in 10 years. Same clown who threw kev under the bus will do the same to madge when he starts getting tough with them. If there is no loyalty to a guy who gets you to a grand slam final sure as hell wont be any to madge. Coach isnt the problem, front office and lack of quality leaders in the squad is.
