One of the great integrations of sax and singer I have heard in 40+ years of listening to jazz. I've always loved Kurt Elling's approach to music and his ability to sing lyrics of great ballads in innovative ways, as an instrumentalist might, and communicate the emotional content of the song's story. E Watts is a brilliant soloist, but he doesn't just lay out when Kurt comes in after Ernie's solo, he plays delicate figures under Kurt's vocals. Reminds me of Trane and Johnny Hartman. Beautiful!

A giant of jazz without a doubt. But just when i thought jazz couldn't get any cleverer, he touched my soul. With 'Flirting With Twilight" he grew into an artist so much so, that my ageing mother in her late 80's upon hearing him for the first time said" he's a true artist" . She had a tear in her eye.

If Kurt Elling's voice took the form of a young woman, I'd marry her immediately. Beautiful. And Laurence Hobgood's a marvelous pianist and arranger. (Oh, and you've gotta love Ernie freakin' Watts, man!)
