Everyone looks like they've stayed up all night and just decided to jam at 4am. My favourite kind of music. ❤

To me this is just a different musical vibe of Kurt’s from before. I don’t think he has ever been a straight jazz singer. He is playing with different kinds of grooves like he often does. He is playing with the James Brown soul funk thing for a start. And vocally he is experimenting with the Donny Hathaway path. For all we know, next he may channel Funkadelic. Or he may go in another direction entirely. Who knows? That’s the fun of it.

Just as good a singer as that other guy with a hat.

I'm sorry, but my view of any artist and/or a recording that is "Grammy nominated" is akin to getting the Kiss of Death. IMHO It is the best reason to take a pass on a recording. Surely Kurt has been nominated before, but my theory applies to this latest recording by Kurt. Now, don't get me wrong I LOVE Kurt, to me he is the pre-eminent male singer on the scene today. But, I gotta say it his earlier recordings that showcase his enormous vocal talents, his range, his emoting, his swinging, and his complete devotion and digestion of every song he sings. This is cool, but it just is not up there in my Favorite work of Kurt Elling's. Hey, I have yet to hear of the ball player who steps up to the plate and each and every time he knocks the cover off the ball and hits it out of the ball park , All day, Every Day.

That's an absolutely stupid reason to not pay attention to music. Seriously? Your whole post smacks of music snobbery. Pretentious "rules" that make no sense. It's ONLY about the music. I mean, if you don't like it then fine. To each their own. But to say that you would "pass" on something simply because it's recognized? It really means you care more about the peripheral aspects of music and entertainment and the industry more than you actually care about the content. The music itself. This stuff is fantastic. Just saw him live and it's soulful, funky and amazing and he flexes all his vocal muscles so you're completely wrong there. And really dude, I'd be willing to bet many of the grammy voters are some of your favorite musicians. Maybe give it a bit of thought before jumping on the snob wagon.
