I guess other cats might be more persistent but Kurt seems like a good boy and my cat has never scratched me for a treat ever. You just have to train correctly and only reward when you have signalled for the high five first.

Is Kurt following instructions because he respects you and recognises you as the alpha or because he knows that by doing what you want when he hears the click that he gets a treat? I have had cats as pets for over 30 years and I have never used treats to get my cats to understand behaviour that is appropriate and not appropriate. I have always used words. For instance, the word 'no' was used to get my cats to recognise that jumping onto kitchen bench tops or table was not acceptable behaviour. I would say the word 'no' and remove him from the table. If they attempted to bite because they didn't like being removed, I used the word no again and ignored the cat for around 1-2minutes in order to not reinforce unacceptable behaviour. Cats, all animals, are very intelligent and we do not give them credit for their intelligence.

One tip for training him better and responsively is before he jumps on an object u want him to, point the rod to it and click before he jumps on, this will signal the position of where he is getting the treat thus, leading him to follow it, hope this helps🙏❤️

I'm looking to redo ours and was curious if yours is a hard or ceramic tile or the luxury vinyl tile that I've been seeing. It looks like it would be easy to clean and the colors are so pretty.
