Double knife story. When I was 11 I received a case canoe for Christmas from my dad. I letter lost it and was heartbroken. Jump ahead to me being 19 and newly married and working, I saved some lunch money up and bought a new canoe. A few months go by I was helping my in-laws move. My father-n-law pulled out an old beaten knife that wouldn’t cut tape so I handed him the canoe. He carried it every day for years. The next year I was going to build a deck on the house and found my original canoe in my nail apron. Best day ever. Just over 10 years lost. After my father-n-law passed away, the second canoe was returned to me. So now I have one from both of my fathers.

I think that Blade HQ should just make a table out of reclaimed wood. Then they don't have to frett if someone stabs it. That or they could put a small slice out of a tree stump and finish it enough to use it as a display pedestal of sorts. They could stab that all they wanted and swap it out or move it out of shots as necessary.

I've had this hobby, I guess for over 30 years now, which means there have been times I was much more active in my enthusiasm. But collecting has never been too far to the back of my mind. I had a resurgence in interest in the early 2 thousands. This is when I gained an appreciation for multi tools, and Swiss Army Knives. I know maybe not in line with a lot of what you guys feature, but very useful and a crazy collecting rabbit hole by themselves. This was also the time when I Took a risk and tried my first Spyderco, a tenacious. I was an instant convert. That thing became my instant favorite, and a constant ride along, no matter what else I carried. As such, it eventually got lost somewhere. It took me a while, but about a year or so back, I decided it was finally time to replace it. And still the same, almost always a constant companion. With all that, I kind of have trouble calling myself a "collector" because there are a couple legendary pieces that are just too far outside of my price range to make the jump to.

@Uberragen215 жыл бұрын
@@philipn5140 - I have no need to prove anything. I'm a knife lover and in the last couple years have gotten into collecting (only about 30 knives so far, 8 are pricey). I would not worry about dropping my knives on the floor...individually...without padding. I have dropped several knives accidentally on various hard surfaces, concrete, tile, linoleum, hardwood. Out of all the hard surfaces only the concrete scratched two of my knives and dented one. If I wanted to replicate the illusion BHQ did in this video, with the appearance of not caring and dropping all the knives, it would be on a padded surface. How do I *know* they did it this way? I don't...call it a hunch. No sound, couldn't see the knives hitting the ground, screen cut and edited before the tackle box was dropped. All this points to a high likeliness of knives dropped on padding and moved before the box was dropped (also likely on padding). Common sense ain't so common... 🤔

Doubling up on knives (triplets, quadruplets..) is essential. I agree with what some others have said for their reasons, and I would add another. I have doubles of knives I love so I can give the one in my possession as a quick gift without hesitation. I was talking to a friend at work and I learned that he was an Eagle Scout, and going camping with his new bride, and didn’t own a decent pocket knife. I gave him the SAK I had in my bag and he was so grateful. It’s like getting to be like Lynn Thompson without being the president of a knife company. Even an affordable knife gift is very appreciated if it’s in need.

Now for the Single White Female Moment: My first Benchmade was also the Mini Barrage. At last count that knife is responsible for 31 Benchmades currently in my personal collection. --- ADDITION KILLS --- Thanks guys! Keep up the good work!
@nathanrieck21125 жыл бұрын
Matt that’s a lot of benchmades....I got hooked with a 550 and have been carrying that almost daily for over a year and one of the springs broke and I sent it in for the warranty and had to dig out one of my older cheap knives and it sucks. So I ordered a knife that I have looked at and wanted ever since getting the 550....I bought a 940 and I’m waiting for it to come in the mail. Should be here in the next two days I think. I can’t wait but at the same time I’m like I already have a great knife and don’t really need this. I just have to wait until they send it back...I couldn’t wait so I ordered the 940. The problem is that I may have opened the flood gates to buying more benchmades Edit: I’ve also been trying to hold out on buying a bug out as well...I may look into getting one used off of eBay in the future depending on how much I like the 940. Maybe the 940 will be the fix I need or maybe it will get me hooked and want to get more

Yup, I'm a crow too, just like Kurt. I have around 120 knives and yes, some are duplicates, all the way from a $24 RJ Martin designed Kershaw assisted, which is one of my all time favorites, to a real deal RJ Martin custom which was just under $2K, and everything in between. ZT's, Spyderco's, Benchmark's, Guardian Tactical's, Hogue's, etc., a good many of which I bought from BladeHQ, and a lot of knives by some famous and not so famous knife makers that I've picked up on the used market. The first 6 or 8 knives I bought were safe queens and then I realized that that's really not what I wanted knives for. From that time on, I've only bought knives that I knew I could and would use every day, and that's exactly what I do. I rotate through the collection picking two knives to use every day. One for around the house carry and one for out in public carry. While I'm not as tough on my knives as Kurt is, I'm not afraid to use them to cut anything within reason because I've got both a WorkSharp Ken Onion and a Wicked Edge sharpener, and either one of those will pretty much bring back any type of blade to scary sharp. Lusting after knives is certainly not cheap, but it's a lot less expensive than lusting after the opposite sex.

A few things. 1- Name for the green and black knife: Boomslang (meaning; Tree Snake). 2- I love that sheath Kurt made, really cool. 3- He clearly has a Benchmade fetish that I don't share but we definitely seem to gravitate towards similar types of knives, great collection. 4- Yes, I am a fellow crow. I have so many knives that I never carry that occasionally feel a little shame regarding the fact. 5-I absolutely have doubles. And I may buy doubles for various reasons. Like Kurt I have bought duplicates to Frankenstein them because I like features from different variants or because I want to mod it and want backup incase I screw it up. But occasionally (especially with fixed blades) I'll buy multiples just because they look cool as a pair or I'm looking for a beater and I find one that I like and get it at such a price that I'll buy multiples just to have a spare.

I know I'm super late, but just seeing this vid for the first time. I have also bought double knives, multiple times actually. The first one being a Benchmade Barrage also (full size). My original one went through hell and back and now fails to open. That thing is jammed closed. I need to send it back for warranty but I'm lazy. Well, Benchmade had a really good sale on them once, so I actually customized one with olive drab scales and a zombie green blade with a skull on it. It's really pretty. I also have bought 3 Spyderco Enduras. Once was because I had to give it up when I forgot I had it on me when attending a sporting event, and couldn't walk the mile back to my car to store it. Then, I thought I lost the second one so I got a 3rd, then found the second one a few days after the 3rd came in.

I had 7 identical leatherman folder knives. Not sure what style, they aren't a multitool, just a standard folder. Were $17-$20 canadian rupees each, and made in america. At that time was my first full time job, working in a livestock feedmill, used a knife constantly. I got thrown into managing the place on my second or third week on the job - so I was always way behind on everything I needed to do and constantly rushing being deprived of sleep and being scatterbrained. During the winter I kept on putting my knife down while I was working on something, forgetting about it, it would get covered in snow/ice, and I started buy them 2 at a time when I lost them. When the time the snow melted, I found most of the knives I lost. At the height of it, I had seven of them at once, but I can't remember how many I bought - so I could have easily bought 8 or 9 of them and just never found a few of them back. I later switched to a fixed bladed mora because I was better at not misplacing it - I ended up gifting 2 of them away to co-workers, but I still have 5 of them. They are a bit rusty, but I just leave them everywhere so I always have a knife. One in my car, one in my backpack, one in my house, etc. And then I run a better knife as my daily driver. Terrible steel that doesn't hold an edge well, but super easy to sharpen - I love those knives.

Best Knife video of all time! I loved it. Kurt please do more videos! Loved your knives and the stories behind them. Made me feel less guilty for my knife addiction. Thank you my blade brotha!

Thumbs up for the leather work. I'm also a crow. I have doubles of the Endura 4 and triples of the Kershaw Skyline 1761 because I had trouble transferring the clip to tip-up carry (lets just say that I fudged the screws) and the third I wanted the flytainium brass scales.

For some reason these videos remind me of the old tv show where they would sell knives and other junk at like 3am. My mind fails me to remember the name but you know what I'm saying.
I bought 2 Spyderco delicas, a blackout and an orange full flat. Swapped the orange handles onto the blackout. Kept all the black hardware and added a black deep-carry clip.

Fun video. I've been a crow at times. I almost bought a Benchmade dagger at a knife store in Puente, CA the other day, but fought the urge as it was $200. I have one double set. It's two Benchmade 940s. I bought the first one because I was so impressed with the Axis lock. Here in Kalifornski, autos are so regulated that this knife was "close enough." I didn't like the green scales, though, and the Tanto blade seemed more for fighting than EDC. So when I saw one on line with black scales and blade, a more practical (part-serrated) blade, I bought that, too. The OD one stays in my desk to stab-open letters. I'm liking the green a little better than before. I do plan to get a Bugout and a Pro-Tech mini-something auto for EDC. Someday.

If love to see a video of Kurt trying to hunt with an axe... and only an axe ... now I’m imagining Kurt storming through a forest screaming like a Viking as then just yeeting the axe into a deer

I love the Microtech Mini UMS autos and bought 3 of them in different colors back when they were still being made. I can't really think of any others I bought more than one of and actually had them at the same time besides those. Cool vid guys.

I understand Kurt. I am also a crow when it comes to knives sometimes lol. Just got my first $100+ knife. A local knife store here in OR had some for 130 bucks. It's a blue Benchmade Bugout with a satin blade and serrated edge. After trying so many pocket knives out, this one is definitely the easiest to open and close with one hand. I'm amazed, you really do get what you pay for.

I purchased a Spyderco TECHNO, and after a couple of months of hard and heavy use and abuse, I am SOLD on this little tank of a knife. I have years of heavy use all around the world and I still chant find another knife that is better. After years Spyderco has a new TECHNO-2, and although it’s not technically the exact same knife, it’s a twin brother. The new TECHNO-2 is a little redesigned, but it is essentially a double. I loved the Techno so much that I had to have another. Now my daily dilemma is choosing which one goes with me to work daily. Luckily.,.....like children, I love them both equally and no preferential treatment is given. Techno’s.....they are hidden secrets, pull the trigger and get one....but be prepared to get it’s twin too....they are that good !

That’s a cool leather sheath. Idk if these count , but I bought 2 of the same Leatherman Topo Signals and the reason is because I ordered one online and it took like 3 months to come in so while I was waiting I got impatient and bought a second one lol then gave one to my best friend. I also bought two Bugouts. One is the Ranger Green you have and the second one is a custom OD Green off the Benchmade custom shop. So I understand his love for two knives.
