This is one of the first channels of this sort where everything is explained. If I had to do over in life, being a machinist would have been my choice. You make everybody feel totally at home. You are an excellent excellent teacher. I am curious on the one part of the vice you didn’t get apart. Would Kurt send you that information or could you send the piece to them for total disassembly, cleaning, lubrication & reassembly? If I misunderstood that part of it, perhaps you did get that accomplished? New subscriber, love the talking while the video plays.
@BurtonsAttic4 жыл бұрын
Thanks James, no I didn't take it apart but did flush/work it for some time until clear mineral spirits came out and then lubed it. Actually if I did manage to take it apart I think it would have been difficult to get back together as it's the clutch mechanism. It has three very strong springs with a pin. The reason I didn't push so hard to get it apart!

Your fly cutter does that recutting because your vertical head is not trammed in
@BurtonsAttic4 жыл бұрын
The tram on both spindles is within .0005. I always do a light pass by just touching off. If that where the case I would see the part being cut first on one side and then no cut on the other side or reversed. An angle. I think it's just tool flex. With heavy cuts it's worse, with light cuts it almost goes away. Could also be the bit angle to the part which I have experimented with but need to do more. I didn't make the cutter body so the angle of the slot may need to be adjusted, changing the bit angle. Also I may make a slightly larger one and go up to a larger bit so the bit is more stable. This one really is just meant for light cutting. Thanks for commenting.

At the 11:00 mark... A Shaper would be a great tool for making those T-nuts :-)
Bridgeport I’m really concerned do I use the voice crossways long ways on the table or do I run it perpendicular to the table it seems like to me that if I run it long ways on the table that that could cause issues and not holding the parts correctly which could put me in danger
@santopezzotti7303 жыл бұрын
Do you think it will work on my Bridgeport mill the table is 9inch x 42 inch do you think it will be safe to run it the long way on my table

You don't like the smell of raunchy coolant with a wallop of caked machine oil? Man, that's my favorite smell, my wife still thinks it's my aftershave. The smell of cheap tooling!
@BurtonsAttic4 жыл бұрын
I'll tell you what that is like the worse shop smell ever and I've been in a lot of shops but that takes the cake for sure. When I picked them up didn't smell at all in the large wide open building but in my small shop, man!
