GRID Autosport Career Mode - 13 - Racing Wheel, Open Wheel

Welcome to GRID Autosport, the latest racing game from Codemasters and successor to 2013's GRID 2. In this video we're continuing full steam ahead in our Let's Play of the career mode that we started in the first, more review-ey video. We're trying out all the available race disciplines... and only end up liking two of them.
Despite my criticisms, Codemasters have provided me with this copy of GRID Autosport in order to share my opinions with my viewers. Kudos to them for that!

I feel like Kurt thinks he owes his viewers these videos.. Kurt, if you're reading.. you don't. If you don't enjoy the game, don't play it. Do more Assetto Corsa videos instead. Not only is it a better racing simulation game, and one you enjoy more, but it's far more enjoyable to watch someone play a game they like playing. I'm sure everyone who watches your Grid videos also watches Beef's, so it's not like we're all gonna miss out on this game. At least Beef seems to be having fun playing it. At the end of the day, that's what playing games is about.. having fun. If you're not having fun, what's the point? You're just gonna get frustrated and then annoy a lot of viewers.

Kurt you are speaking too early. Open wheel is not drifty. You just have Stability Control disabled and you are driving with a wheel for the first time. That's not drift. That's sliding because of losing traction and stability. Don't lower the quality of your videos. You can stop playing whenever you want to.

Open wheel cars becoming unstable at those high speeds just show the absolutely retarded physics that this game has. Oversteering an open wheeler at 120 mph? Yea thats a fucking joke.

This game isnt a simulator, you can slide drift make a 360 with any car, same shit as Grid 2.

Engravatado0zX Well.. NO. GRID 2 was all about drifting. This game's controlling of car is so different compared to GRID 2. But that doesn't make this one the best of course. Better than GRID 2 however. Play the both games first dude.

I think you should check out the pinned g27 thread on steam forums. People there show what settings seems to work and it explains what things like saturation does as well.

F3 cars are very similar in chassis construction to the f1 cars but are lighter weight, 1210lbs versus 1415lbs, and have a shorter wheelbase, 79in versus 118in. The biggest difference is in their powerplants, f3 cars have restricted engines that top out at about 200hp compared to the over 730hp that f1 engines produce creating a large difference in speeds. As for why the f3 car is 'drifty', it's largely an effect of the lower speed creating lower downforce causing the car to be less stuck to the road surface combined with the shorter wheelbase that promotes sharper turns. Trying to compare the two car types are like comparing apples and pears.

You shouldn't really need to use any dead zone, the force feedback should be able to assist you on keeping the car straight. If it isn't good enough i'd suggest upping the degrees of rotation to increase your control, 200 degrees just isn't enough for grip racing imho as it's too easy to accidentally over correct, usually i prefer 360-420 degrees for grip racing. Real F1 cars uses 360 degrees as far as i can tell from live videos, i.e their wheel is upside down in hairpins.

Those cars in the opening video weren't drifting that much. Okay compared to formula one yes but the Formula Ford and Formula Renault cars go sideways like those a lot.

WhiteLama To be fair, Kurt complains about the AI even when he takes some stupid fuckin line and they almost have to go off the track to avoid him. The AI is shit, but he's also pretty bad at driving around others as well, he doesn't follow his line at all either. So it's a give and take.

bloxyman22 GT6 has rubber banding? Wow, I never actually took the time to notice. GT6 is boring as hell regardless, and the AI are indeed on rails, mostly why I never made the effort to get past the first block of races. The moon challenges were pretty fun though, gotta admit =3

F1 2013: Ermagerdh, the AI just yields every position, they dont even fight for it. Grid Autosport: AI makes a totally F3-like move, they are on rails!

I thought the physics of GT6 were fun at least. It's the only GT game I've ever played with my G27 wheel and it worked very well as a fun little simulator. I have a feeling the consoles' hardware is what has held back the simulator aspect of the series. Without proper processing power to allocate to AI and physics (and the lowest common denominator target audience demanding *I JUST WAN TEH GRAFIX!*), I have a feeling Polyphony has a chance to really make a comeback this generation. Might even buy a PS4 if the GT7 reviews are good enough. The point I was making in the original post is GRID AS is a PC game, they have all the processing power in the world to code decent opponent AI :P

I dont understand why it has to be such a hassle for people with a steering wheel to set up. You would think that developers would be happy that people invest in such things. I mean you should be able to configure how you like your wheel to be in windows in the driver software and then the game should find and recognize that. This whole thing reminds me of back when it was a hassle without end to get sound in your games, having to find and select card sound name, then irq, dma and 5 other things. Its stuff like this that personally discourages me from getting a wheel, i mean spending 2-3-4-500 dollars on a wheel, and then you have to struggle to get the damn thing to even performance properly in racing games.
