Preparing the cylinder head for the 260Z L26 Engine

In this episode we continue work on the 1974 Datsun 260Z. The cylinder head gets some attention where we remove studs, replace valve seals, check rocker arm wipe, and finish the head so it’s ready for installing on the block.

It looks like Delta is a resurface and regrind of a Nissan cam, which (if so) is a good thing. I’ve had good results on a 260Z engine with the Comp Cams 84-119-6 grind number 252S. Also a L2 street cam. Idle isn’t too rough and it’s drivable with more torque. It will allow you to set all the valve clearances to .008” cold or .010” hot. Instead of having switch between .008” and .010” feeler gauges for cold intake/exhaust. I always got confused and had to make a chart before using this cam. Now it’s an EZ job. Peace!

Thanks for all of the content, it has really helped out in my 280z build. My cylinder head was recently resurfaced and I am ready to put it all back together but wonder if I should bother with getting a mild camshaft regrind like you. 🤔 what do you think? I haven’t even driven the car more than a few miles and can’t wait but will it be worth the wait in the end to get it reground?I’ll have to give delta a call to get prices and eta

Getting the regrind will get you a little more from your engine. Best time to do is when it’s all apart but could be done later down the road.

@@CarsBikesandCoffee called Delta! Prices are very fair, he recommended the 260 or 268 grind. You mentioned your was kind of a stage II, was it any of those options by any chance? It looks like your stock lash pads were fine to? Thanks Kurt!

Right on! The 268 is the grind I got. I would also suggest having them do that resurface I mentioned.
