Hi I don't know if I'm wrong or not but I don't see many people using kurzweil instruments and it's such a sad thing. Why is that? It is because of price? Are they complicated to work with? What seems to be a problem? Thank you so much. 💓

I started plinking piano by ear as a child. Around age 18 or so I took up guitar and I've been playing that most of my life. I'm interested in buying a K2700 for both my home recording and to add a secondary keyboard part in cover bands (for songs with less guitar and more KB going on). But, watching you do this really makes me wish I could also play the keys that well.

YCK need to heed this & give AM&S & KraftM some massive credit. Kudos to y'all for doin' the presentation that's probably gonna leave the Big 3(and just about everybody & everything else out there for that matter) shaken in there boots & rightly so. Just like the K2k original grandaddy did many moons ago. Thanx guys very much for bringin' the forefront to Kurz again dudes.

I’d really like to see a video focused on the VAST architecture and programming new sounds rather than tons of presets. What improvements have been made to VAST since I sold my K2500 (besides polyphony)? Is the screen used for making programming such a complex system more accessible? Lots of “characterful” old school sounds, but how can I use the power of VAST (and the improvements to it) to create something with a contemporary sound? I know that wasn’t the point of this video. I’m just saying I’d really like to see something like that.
@ChristianMartirano
@ChristianMartirano 2 жыл бұрын
That video would be awesome to do. If life affords me the time, I’ll try to do one. It’s seriously deeper than the K series. The K series had 32 algorithms, and then they added triple mode which allowed you to chain three layers into one long DSP chain. With extended VAST you now have over 100 algorithms, and you can chain any number of layers arbitrarily up to all 32 per program. There are new DSP blocks and many more cool algorithms. It’s far advanced over the K-series..
@gesslr
@gesslr 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChristianMartirano Thanks for responding! It's exactly that kind of info that I'd love to see more about. Workstations have their place, but many don't age well and it's exactly what you describe that makes something like the 2700 stand out as something that will still be relevant for a studio in the future. Thank you.

I was really interested since I have a PC2X which has been my bread and butter for over 15 years (and I had a LOT of 88 key boards before that). One issue I've always had is that the pianos are much lower in volume than the other sounds, which I've never understood since the piano is Kurzweil's claim to fame... As soon he moved to other sounds, they were way louder again. C'mon Kurzweil!! // Some of the sounds are an upgrade, but I didn't hear a marked increase in sonic excellence; that could be just how this was recorded, Idk. Some new features seem really cool, but I didn't hear enough to make me jump on the K2700 bandwagon. Hearing Keith Emerson sounds from nearly 50 years ago was almost depressing. So tired of that portamento moog sound; and I'm from that era! Before I buy another 88-key keyboard (which I will do in the coming year), I'll check this out. I want to hear other sounds of course.

@dynoroad 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the samples themselves are not of utmost importance in a synth, if you ask me. It's how you actually use them and what tools you are given to shape them. Take the Korg Wavestate for example. Some utterly mind blowing sounds that the Korg team programmed for that thing, all by using samples that by themselves sound pretty shit. However, if you're more interested in new strings samples, orchestral samples etc. then I guess this new iteration will be a bit disappointing.

@@ChristianMartirano Survivorship bias)) I recently got this TP40L where the top two octaves are playable and the lower keys stiff. I was able to trace this down to pink plastic parts rubbing against the metal rod that is likely poorly machined in the lower region. In the past I tried a PC3A8 that was very good, then a PC3K8 and a Forte right next to it that were stiff. I returned to the shop a couple of weeks later with a set of calibrated weights - and the difference was about 20 grams.

@jeffevansmusic
@jeffevansmusic 2 жыл бұрын
The big problem with Kurzweil's these days is they are not well made any more. I have owned many (from all eras) and I also have repaired many of them over the years too. I had a PC3K and it only lasted less than 10 years before the display went out, the power supply, the output jack board and more. The large rotary knob on my PC3K just snapped off. I managed to repair it but there is a tiny little pot behind it. I also have a K2500R and its is beautifully made compared to the new ones. (Korea) What is not obvious here in this video is the sound of the new generation Kurzweil's is not the same as the K2500 series. To my ears the best sounding Kurzweil is the K2500/2600 series. There is just something about that sound that is not in the current ones. Where is the K2700 made? Find out. Be very careful. After my bad experiences with the PC3K I am never going to buy another one. The reality is there are better made products out there that sound just as good. And if any of you have still got a K2000/K2500, people are releasing new sound banks for them right now and they just sound incredible. Makes your old Kurzweil sound completely different, new and totally fresh. Save your money and buy some new sound banks instead! kzbin.info/www/bejne/moOslKCggZ6iaZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnivnnWKe9mErJY

Young Chang bought Kurzweil in 1990. All K series (K2000, K2500, K2600), PC88, PC2 were created during their ownership. R&D was and is still Boston based. I think you are very mistaken about Young Chang. Hyundai has owned them from the creation PC3 through the present. Prior to Young Chang Kurzweil produced the K250, RMX, and 1000 series racks and the K1000 keyboard.
