Looks good , I love my vudoos and atlas pistols but why on earth did he port it half way down the barrel ?
@claymac2011Ай бұрын
I asked him the exact same question. Like all builders I’ve ran into over the years, he did it that way because it produced the best test results from each porting style he tested. I can say they have different felt recoil impulses but hit about the same in the hand from my Priest. It feels like a soft wave is the best way I can describe it. I have my TAC Pros with V8 and both my Vulcan and Priest are softer shooting guns IMO. I have about every porting style you can own and my Vulcan is a softer than my Priest but not by much. Probably splitting hairs as they say.

Brother I'm so happy for you! Well I think you can do both if I remember his build sheet. You can get an extra slide & barrel to run on LO for USPSA. It's more money of course but you get the best of both worlds😎 I don't shoot competitively so my vote is to get porting on my range toys. It’s smoother feeling than the atlas because of the polish, atlas have great fitment and do very well on blending compared to lots of others including Vudoo which I love .
@claymac2011Ай бұрын
Yepper, hopefully I explained that well enough in my review as I find most 2011 owners don’t know this fact. I hear dudes all the time say it feels like ball bearings but have no idea why it’s the case or say Atlas triggers are best. Thinking it’s only the trigger shoe not knowing it’s the sear, hammer hook engagement, polishing of the internals and tuning of the sear spring that makes it a great trigger. Checkout my parts breakdown videos where I tear my guns apart and explain this in depth. As I said, I shot and handled my first Atlas and wasn’t blown away like I thought I would. As I had very high expectations based off of everyone’s opinion I’ve heard over the years. I’m going to ShotShow in January and will get to shoot all the AGW models. So my opinions may change as I gain more experience with higher end guns. Not sure how your Priest is configured but I felt like my Priest could hold its own vs that Titan. Especially for a $2300 price difference. I remember when I felt my first 2011 (Staccato P LE) and was like wow this is different. I simply didn’t have that reaction when I got hands on that Titan. What are your thoughts since you own both brands? Were you like wow this Atlas is next level?

@ atlas has better blending and overall fitment then my Vudoo pistols as far as how they shoot it’s about the same so really depends on if somebody things the extra 2k is worth it , I will say my chrome atlas Erebus is my favorite of my all my 2011s . I think Vudoo though are very great at the price and one of them is steel grip with ports and it shoots phenomenal.

@@asilaydying1984 Sorry, I didn't reply sooner. I love my Priest and this Vulcan but have limited experience with the AGW product line. The Vulcan action is so so smooth, like way smoother than the Titan and Priest. I hope to get my hands on all the models at Shotshow to shoot and handle to really understand the differences. That’s pretty damn good considering others are 6+ months.. I had interest until you mentioned the lack of DLC/PVD.. That is unfortunate. Cerakote is a hard pass for me. As is nitride.. in my opinion a gun costing 2k+ should be DLC coated.. I build my own using cheely and atlas parts. DNA for DLC coating. I wouldn’t want the engraved or numbered mags, gun mat, or any of that “personal” stuff..
@claymac2011Ай бұрын
@ I completely understand as I to love me some DLC. I will say he has some satin and brushed finishes that are pretty cool. I was talking with a new builder the other day and I guess a lot of the big DLC vendors don’t want to do small batches of DLC anymore. Instead they’re moving to just large scale OEM companies that can fill up the chambers. Thank you for watching.
@PnP-td1mtАй бұрын
@@claymac2011 yeah I had another “builder” try to tell me Cerakote was superior to DLC because of it corrosion resistance… On parts that are high nickel/low carbon/stainless steel? Yeah no.. DNA still does small batches. Company here in Ohio does small batches of DLC AND PVD but you have to have a FFL.. I am convinced people push cerakote because it’s cheap and easy. To the point of making stuff up to justify using it.
@claymac2011Ай бұрын
@@PnP-td1mt That maybe the case for some folks pushing cerakote but it's defiantly not a superior product to DLC IMO. I will say the DLC crackdown on small shops almost happened to me on my C2 build with Richter Precision (one of the major DLC vendors). They notified my gun shop that they'll be "OEM only" going forward and that my gun just made the cutoff date. I was real lucky on that one because my gun was prepped for coating and was just waiting to be sent in when they were notified. The other point is you have the skills and knowledge to build your own guns that other folks simply don't have. So you can get all top tier parts, you control fitment, labor hours and no over head in a DIY role. So, I can cut these guys some slack for not having a DLC finish due to the low volume if the gun is priced appropriately amongst it's peers. Counter point to your DLC thoughts- The build quality on the Vulcan is pretty spectacular, so $3200 gets you everything minus the DLC finish and then send it off to DNA for coating at $550 for a grand total of around $3800 bucks. I don't know of any brand that you gets everything (metal grip, hand fit, polished/blended correctly, great trigger ) plus DLC under $4K? Let me know if I missed a brand because I will check them out. Example - my XC is $4300 (great gun w/ a DLC finish) but my Vulcan is significantly better built and a noticeably softer gun to shoot. Alpha Foxtrot and Staccato are the only brands that I know of that offer DLC coatings as the standard finish at a budget level (AF) or entry level (Staccato) price points. These two brands have trades offs to include MIM parts (AF builds) or a polymer grip/trigger shoe, basic controls with production quality fitment (Staccato) to hit a price point to make a profit. That's why I keep saying in my reviews you have to look at everything you get for these price points because some of these companies most certainly have trades offs in these areas. It's also the reason, I break my reviews down into these specific areas to explain the differences vs a 10 minute video of a dude rattling off the specs and shooting crazy fast. I'm trying to do my reviews differently than the other guys because I don't shoot competitions/don't need money for this hobby but I have a really good understanding of how these guns are built. I want to have conversations like this get more knowledge for myself but to also help others. So to me, it's all about perspective but I do get your point on the cost of these guns getting out of control for what specs you get. Love the discussion brother.
