I just lost my third Kuvasz. I'm devastated. They are the best breed for politeness, sensitivity, perceptiveness, good judgment, and protection. I don't feel safe in my home without him. I don't feel I can survive without him.

I am sorry. I used to have one a long ago. She was also polite and sensitive. I miss her.

I've had three Kuvasz over the past sixteen years, living in condos and a couple of small houses. my current house has a decent yard, which my Kuv enjoys guarding. Hint: make "quiet" a positive command so you don't have to be yelling about all the barking. They are highly intelligent, and can do obedience (to a point: recall is not easy) if they feel like you're a strong partner. They are almost balletic in their movements, have exquisite manners, and never body slam (unless you're a husky who likes rough play).They are 100% trustworthy with children, smaller dogs, and cats. Do note: my last Kuv went savage when he was about 2. Really savage. We got through it by a) avoiding high-traffic times at the park and b) me being uber-dominant. Once he turned the corner he gave himself a new job: therapist to anxious dogs. He could teach a dog confidence in a single session. My current Kuv is the prince of sweetness. He regards 99% of other dogs as flock, and keeps them calm and positive, in a quiet, way. I like to say he's Alpha, not dominant. He has nothing to prove. I gave each of the three a good foundation through socialization and training: self-calming, behavioral guidance, rewarding positive stuff (with food!) and cutting down negative stuff (you be nasty, you going home). Oh, and you have to do a full down before every meal. Not for long, but you have to do it. Oh, and NOBODY with evil intent is getting into our house. I live alone, so that's a big deal.

I lost my 9 yr old Leonberger last year to cancer. She was a great traveling companion and was perfect except as a guard dog. Maybe lick an intruder to death. She mastered everything except recall. I am doing my research about Kuvasz. They are beautiful .

@@cortex333 I have read that they will die for you. I have an almost 8 month old Kuvasz. We are both in the learning stage. I think once we get past her puppyhood, life will be grand.

Love the video! The things I like most about Kuvasz is their intelligence, sense of humor and beauty. My 2 year old Kuvasz, Rózsa, is so much fun to work with. We love scent work, agility and learning new tricks. When Rózsa is not working she is a sweetheart and a cuddle bug. These dogs were bred to be guardians but they are capable of so much more.

Hi Jamie, thank you for giving your insight and discussing your experience. I am interested in purchasing a dog and will be an absoloute newbie, would you recommend this dog for first time owners?
@jamienila8742 жыл бұрын
@@beautifultogether5877 A Kuvasz, as a first dog ever, would be very challenging. They are very intelligent, independent thinkers who need lots of mental stimulation. Socialization and positive reinforcement is key to a good behavior development. Due to their size and strong guarding instincts, I generally recommend them to advanced dog owners. I'm not saying it is impossible, as a inexperienced dog owner, but you would need to be deeply devoted and involved in training with a true professional trainer (lots of people call themselves dog trainers but few are any good). If you are really considering this breed you should really meet some Kuvasz and talk to a breeder about what your expectations are. If your serious, please let me know and I will be happy to give you more information.

My grandparents had a kuvasz and I loved her so much. She would sleep right outside my bedroom window to protect me.

Just a few facts to correct: Mathias I reigned between 1458-1490, not 1458-1480. Also, in a picture with a dog and a Hungarian noble man is linked to Mathias I. However, in the painting the noble man is Rákóczi Ferenc (Francis in EN) II, who lived between 1676-1735. However, he also loved the kuvasz.
