I use mine as a “key checker” with the Kwikset smartkeys cylinders in SC1 on the top and KW1 keyway at the bottom. I won it in a drawing at our local association and installed the SC1 in place of the control cylinder. If I’m doing a bunch of keys in either keyway I can set it to a key and try them out to guarantee they work. Thanks for sharing!

That's my goal since those are my 2 biggest sellers.

@@JenkinsLocks I did a vid on it a few months back. It’s an easy swap with the SC1.

@@odinslockllc I added a SC1 to my order last night. That's a brilliant idea!

The lock board thickness is why it didn't seat quite right. The 1-1/2" is just a bit thinner than a typical door. It's strange they call it a control key. It's a basic master key system. When I think control key, I think it should remove the cylinder like in an L/SFIC system. Great review. I haven't run into one of these in the wild yet either. There's a few threads in locksmith nation on Facebook about that key blank.

For scrap wood, it does the job most of the time. I'vd seen these around for a while, but never really looked into them. I suspect i'll be getting calls from the customer because of either miskeying or mechanical failure.

@@JenkinsLocks I made one out of some scrap 2x6 just like that. With so many moving parts and that stellar kwikset quality, I would expect issues with longevity. But who knows, they may be pretty solid. I'd try to upsell a proper master key system and maintenance for a complex or similar. But I don't do much of that yet.

Nice job on the tree! I would agree that a simple master key system would be much more reliable. I like the standard KWK smart key locks, but I wouldn’t sell a customer on one of those control key jobbers.

Thanks, just some scrap wood and it's come in handy. I love the smart key locks...lot of customers bring in their dorked up rekey attempts for me to reset...lol

Is there a way to program multiple keys to this lock?
@killer2600 Жыл бұрын
Each cylinder can only be set to a single key bitting so only a single user key and a single master key.

A master key system would have much fewer parts to break. While this is easy to rekey I wouldn’t trust the mechanism for very long.

I agree. I picked this one up to check it out and to have a spare. The customer purchased the ones he wants installed.
