And maybe the “recent phenomenon” in Adam’s file could be the “friend” guy that sounds like he’s talking to a child in volume 3? And that could also have caused Adam being drawn to alternates and other mandela creatures, how the alternate adam flashed into that face while talking to the real adam, and maybe a few other things.

I don't know if you're still curious about this after two years, but Adam was kidnapped as a child and replaced by an Alternate. He was the child who was kidnapped, resulting in his mother hanging herself. The way he was taken was by the Stanley creature that can tell kids how to create imaginary friends (which are actually alternates). So the only Adam we've seen is actually Adam's alternate.
