I'm working on a project that could benefit from this technology. What I need is one laser, and one receiver to monitor a 4" space. The goal is to create an auto feeder for my Bearded Dragon(lizard). I will have a 4" x 4" x 4" box with one open side with a trap door, and I need to count each time a cricket jumps out of the open side(and into the lizards box). After a predetermined number of crickets pass through, the trap door closes until a timer opens it again. I could stack lasers on one side and stack receivers on the other end and count the break of any line as an event. This method is not very scalable, if I wanted to create a larger opening I would have to add more lasers and more receivers. This would also take up more IOs on my microprocessor. Do you have any suggestions on how I can use one laser and one receiver to cover a variable distance? TYIA. -chris

How long can the laser remain turned on? Is it better to have a PWM controlling the laser instead? Can it cause problems to the Arduino due to the current demand?

I was thinking whether it's possible to make laser module work with TFT touch shield 2.4" on Arduino Uno R3 or on Yun...and control it with touch shield module instead of laptop or computer source?

I tried this and my only way to have a 0 input is to unwire the link between Detector OUT and Digital 7

ive made motion detectors using this model before i was wondering if you coyld help? I want a laser transmitter and reciever both lasers on the same board and could be added to a tablet or pc and be able to send and recieve data in binary form i then want to evolve the tech, and make a different version the is IR and picks up sounds and light and relays it as audion to record and play back.

I have purchase the KY-008 laser with the associated sensor board. For my project I only need the 3 pin sensor but I'm unable to identify it, and I can't seem to find any references to it on all the sites that are selling it. Does anyone know the Mfr and Part Number of the detector which inserts into the 3 pin socket? Thanks!!!

haha i agree :) lets say 10-15 meters. i want to know if this set will cover the distance without having many problems of false alarms. I am thinking of installing a merimetrical alarm system at my house, so they will be a lot of sun!!

+Fotis Papa I think that will work great.. i though u wanna go hundreds of meters... you ofcourse can have bugs disrupting the beam i think.. which will set of the alarm. but if it is inside probably only your pet will trigger it if you have one... or maybe your parrot:P lol... if you have cats sensor or laser alarms are no fun... because you need to set the angle right to leave a space where the cat can walk ... so if using lots of lasers you will need to at least keep a free space on all your walls and rooms where the cat cant come.. and cats go everywhere + that space is also handy for the burglar... so you have way less security if a pro sees your lasers...

Thanks for the comments !! I don't have any pet , but i am going to make an outside security system, so i will have some fail-alarms, but i am thinking of playing with time of triggering. my only problem if it is realiable to buy a set like this one for the distances i want

+Fotis Papa Well i bought the laser sensors for 49 euro cents and free shipping.. the receivers where a little more expensive.. like 1,80 Euros.. and a arduino copy i can get real good ones for only 3,49 all free shipping from china... even 49 cents they ship... so for this price you can easily test reliability.. and if it doesnt match your needs you can use it for something inside maybe... like your mailbox lol... when the mailman puts an envelope you get a message... many more things you can use it for.. so i would go for it.. i got some reliable suppliers on aliexpress so if you need the links just ask.

I had the same problem. I laughed when I was playing around. The sensor is a LDR which means a light dependant resistor. Your lights on in the room or from the sun outside will always have it switched on or off depending on how you program it. so wheather the laser hits it or not the LDR is already being activated. Turn your lights off and have fun

Hey, I have couple of questions. We are doing final project and our project is making a forklift robot. But we thought how robot could recognize products.We think It is possible with using photodiode and laser. There will be 10 products to choose from center. We will choose any of the product of them and robot will go on line (it is also line follower). When the laser beams on photodiodes on robot, this photodiode should perceive the beam and if it is correct product , robot will take this prduct and it will bring us. So, how can we do this project with laser and photodiode ?

Yes, you can. You can either send analog signals over it or pick a serial protocol and communicate away.
