I'm a punjabi and I can't express how much fucked up the situation is here. I am from an urban area so people I grew up around didn't care much about these songs and gender and caste were not a big deal everyone was practically the same. But then the sheer horror i went through when i went to a state gov uni where 60-80% are from rural areas and rural people live by these songs these songs promote sm of caste class and lable women like commodities. Men follow women and when they say no they still follow them cuz thats what these songs teach. "Jatt'' are a majority here so these songs influence them sm and they exploit people of lower classes even though all jatts are not from upper class. Punjab is a beautiful state and it has a beautiful history. Punjab as a State symbolizes love and brotherhood but these songs have ruined it. I've seen many men make videos with songs firing bullets and they think its cool. Its so unhealthy and i can't even Express how much i hate it all. I'm a punjabi woman and I'm a feminist cuz I've seen how women from rural Punjab are trated and these songs are not helping one bit in their upliftment and the worse is many women have accepted this.

In current generation, you will find that most couples, the man is higher earner. (This is not because anomalies where the guy is stupid and is insecure about woman earning more). This is because society expects men to provide for, perform for and protect their wife and children. Also, as a result, women tend to get attracted to men with higher income levels and a man from lower rung is not an option. Quite opposite to what men are actually doing. Yes there are women who would marry a man earning lower than them, but ask them if they would pay significant bills of household when pregnant/childbirth. The answer overwhelmingly comes as no. And this doesn't mean they are gold diggers. This just means they accept that they are looking for a resourceful man for the betterment of her and children. It is logical. But the consequence would always be extreme portrays such as gold diggers and these punjabi songs.

It's really sad how these industries are misusing their powers. India's soft power is film industry and music industry and if they want they can change the entire thinking of the nation and break several stereotypes. But ironically they are making it worse. I am a BTS fan and now when I think about it, they broke several stereotypes and gave hope to several people, no wonder they are so famous and loved and respected. Indian industry of film and music could also have reached to that kind of love and respect and could have given hope to the world. Such a large industry with such a low mindset. Ofcourse there are some people who are trying to break stereotypes and bring about a change, there's a long way ahead. India needs a change. Not just a political change, or a educational change but also entertainment industry culture change. The music, picture quality, sound quality, all are improving then why can't the lyrics and the theme. I finally now understand why people are losing interest in Indian movies and Indian songs.
