Don't be so partial in your comments. Rafi was a great singers, no doubt. But other singers like Mukesh and Kishore Kumar etc. were also great in their own right. Salil Da was also a great music director. Can you say that songs composed by Salil Da with Mukesh were not good by any standard? He brought the best from Mukesh ji like Shankar Jai Kishan.

Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Talat, Mahendra Kapoor were all very good and the music directors were awesome getting these singers to give their best performances... But when it comes to infusing sweetness into every word of the lyrics, the fine nuances , harkat, murki etc and giving life to the song no one comes even close to Rafi sahab! That is a fact!

For toote hue khwabon ne, Rafi Saheb was the best match for the song. Any singers will tell you high sur in the antara portion was very difficult, that Rafi Saheb was able sing it flawlessly. These Bengali composers like Salil da, Bappi da and Pancham da always played politics with politics m. They only opted for Rafi Saheb, for songs those were difficult for others to sing.

फ़राज़ साहब नमस्कार 🙏🙏 किशोर को सलिल चौधरी तो बहुत पहले से गवाते थे। और वो रफ़ी साहब को पसंद नहीं करते थे केवल २८ गाने दिये थे। सलिल चौधरी ही नहीं सभी बंगाली संगीतकार रफ़ी साहब को पसंद नहीं करते थे सचिन दा को छोड़कर जैसे हेमंत कुमार अनिल विश्वास रवीन्द्र जैन बंगाल से थे राहुल देव और मराठी संगीत कार सी रामचन्द्र। कारण ये कि ये सब खुद अपने को बहुत बडा गायक समझते थे राहुल देव को आशा भोंसले ने भी बरगला दिया था कारण बहुत ख़ुदगर्ज़ औरत है लाख अच्छी गायक हो पर इंसान थर्ड क्लास। अब बात करिये चोटी के सबसे हिट और आसान अत्यंत पर मधुर धुन देने वाले शंकर जयकिशन और लक्ष्मीकान्त प्यारेलाल जिनका स्टॉक इतना है कि ये पॉचो इनके सामने उतने नहीं पर ये दोनों जोड़ी रफ़ी साहब को सबसे ज़्यादा पसंद करते थे हेमंत कुमार हर गाने खुद ही गाते थे हिट तो हो जाते थे पर गुलाबी ऑंखो जो तेरी देखी ओ हसीना ज़ुल्फ़ों वाली या चाहे मुझे कोई जंगली आदि गँवा कर देखता। रफी साहब तो उनके सभी गाने बहुत अच्छे से गा लेगे।

It is such a wrong statement. I am a bengali and a die hard Rafi fan. In the last 30 years there hasn’t been any day when I haven’t listened to a Rafi song. On the other hand, some KZbinrs are trying to prove that Naushad preferred Rafi because they were from the same religion-- again, baseless assumption. Similarity of culture, range of the tune, cultural ethos of the time- so many factors played a role in deciding which music director preferred which singer. Talking about regionalism here is just plain wrong.

@@devohio There are always some exceptions. You might be one of them.Rafi sang maximum songs for Shankar Jai kishan, O P Nayyar, Ravi and LP. Naushad gave songs to Mukesh, Manna, Mahindra Kapoor as well.

This is not always true. S D Burman always preferred Kishore daa for Dev Anand but he gave more importance on the type of song. Some films of Dev sahab like kaala bazar , kaala Pani solwan saal, tere Ghar ke saamne all composed by Burman sahab not a single song was sung by Kishore daa. In Guide except one song , rest three songs were of Rafi sahab. He even used Mukesh Ji's voice in Bambai ka Babu. R D Burman used Rafi sahab voice in Caravan, The train, Mela etc. Yes Salil Chowdhury used him onl you when he realised that no one else was capable. Similarly Khayyam sahab was also very reluctant to take Rafi sahab. Kamal Amrohi had written the songs of Shankar Hussain. The famous song "kahin ek masoom nazuk si ladki"was recorded by Yesudas, when Amrohi sahab listened it he straight away rejected it and forced Khayyam sahab to record it by Rafi sahab and a beautiful soft tuned romantic song was created. Producer Director B Shantaram was also in the same category.
