Hi. From the future here. Just doing some quick exchange rate math, rent + maintenance fee in 2014 would have been around $1,070USD a month, but today it would be around $850USD a month. Have fun with your "Star Mode Mood Settings!" Beekee (Biki) is the cutest! I love following your guys through your life adventures. I had no idea you have to higher a realtor to find an apartment, I'm so used to doing everything on my own. Key money sounds silly, you think letting you live there is good enough. Bomb Insurance? Wow! A key/lock replacement free without having any of those, that's unfair! Having a Guarantor Company is a good idea, especially one that speaks English. Have a great time in Tokyo, I wish to you meet you both the next time I visit Japan. Thanks for sharing!

Most Japanese don't own a toaster, they primarily use the grill to make toast and fish. Also, the cover on the grill (between the two burners) must be removed when the grill is in use. The manufacturers also say to fill the bottom of the grill with water when grilling fish or meat to cut down on smoke and burnt bits, maybe that would decrease the chance the grill turns itself off due to overheating. Hope that helps.

I work for an insurance company in the states. 42c=107.6f wow! Also in America, a lot of places are now making it mandatory you have renters insurance if you rent an apartment from them. And most just to move in, it's 1st, last, and security deposit. so if your rent SF, CA is $1500×2=$3,000+ $1000=$4,000 to move in. And you may have to put down a deposit on utilities.so it's almost the same cost. You guys are great. Love the TOTO toilet!

When you use any type of broiler, if you have it running for more than a couple of minutes, you need to keep it open a little bit. Also, it is really only suitable for things that need about 5 minutes under the flames before you open it. It isn't suitable for warming things up, for that, you are better off nuking it.

Hey guys from NZ I lived in Osaka for about 3 years (have 2 girls there, daughters that is) the grill with the `fish` is for Umagi y`know EEL generally - hence the reason it only cooks for a certain time!. Cheap and one of my favourites!. Love your vids they take me back.

These costs are actually quite reasonable if you consider that Tokyo has been among the most expensive cities in the world to live, for at least the last decade. In London an apartment comparable to your old one in size, but seldom as modern, would cost you about £900 if you're lucky (15,500 JPY) exclusive of any bills. Deposit is typically two months rent (so you pay three months rent in the first month) but there are fewer other upfront costs.

kjlovescoffee Yea, we think the monthly costs are reasonable, we just find the up front costs shocking. -Eric

Congratulation! This is the pretty neat place you found. Believe or not, Tokyo rent used to be more expensive than in New York, but now New York rent is a lot higher. They said that the average rent in Manhattan is $3.500- $4.000 for 1BR. BTW Napolitain is the spaghetti dish which was very popular in '60s and '70s in Japan. Basically it is the sautéed pasta with ham/sausage/meat, veggies and ketchup. Why ketchup? Because at that time you could not find any canned cooked tomatoes in Japan. It had disappeared in '80s because they wanted a real pasta not the cheap Japanese adaptation, but in recent years it made a big come back as older generations felt nostalgic about it. So you can find one @family restaurant type places.

acatinny Good lord, the costs for NYC are insane. That's just not doable! Awesome background on napolitain pasta, we see it all the time but didn't know the history. -Eric

Apparently from another video, the grill under the stove is more for fish. Or at least you have to flip the item inside. This was the video I looked at, if you're curious... they cook mackerel in the stove's broiler thing: Saba: the best fish ever! 魚焼きグリルでサバの塩焼き

That's actually not bad. In New York City, to get started it could be about the same or more for an apartment. I lived in New York City most of my life and now own a house in Florida. I feel so much more relaxed here. But I love all of your videos. You make them fun, informative, and bring back great memories. I lived in Japan for a few months in the 90s and also worked with Japanese people in New York City for about 10 years from the mid-80s to the mid 90s. You guys make me feel like spending time there again. I loved Tokyo, Nada, Kyoto, and other places I visited throughout Japan. Are you guys planning to stay for a long time?

That happened to my older brother! He was only visiting when I told him to go, and he stayed for 5. He now lives in California with his half Japanese 14 year old son (Joshua Petrikat) and that's how I found your videos. Joshua started his KZbin channel (ourplanetexplained) Japan 1 & 2, and I saw yours below. Your 7 waterfalls video is awesome too. Reminds me of a bigger version of Childspark in Dingmans Pennsylvania. Beautiful & fun! :)
