I remember hating this match, it was so boring to me. Yeah it’s impressive he won 3 titles,and I get riding time keeps the ref from calling stalling on top but at some point I feel like Dake should have been warned for stalling. He kept trying to return him out of bounds and wouldn’t work off his hips.

@keeganduncan52892 жыл бұрын
@@rodneydean6552 yeah but you can’t intentionally try to take someone out of bounds, that’s supposed to be stalling or technical point.

I agree Dake was stalling on top. Gotta work for a turn
@GeorgeAdams-te3ky Жыл бұрын
Well…on the other hand, St. john is a great example of why running off the mat is now stalling. With current rules, St. John would’ve had at least one possibility two stalling calls against him in the first period for running off the mat instead of turning-in.
@Slapthematwrestling Жыл бұрын
at this time the rules stated you actually don’t have to work for a turn. You just have to keep breaking your opponent down. Only in this upcoming 2024 season will the top man have to actually work for a turn for it to not be called stalling. Easy to be over critical of the winner but what exactly did St. John do in this match? He couldn’t get out , he couldn’t ride and he didn’t do much of anything on his feet.Thry did call Dake for stalling twice by the way.

I forgot how dominating Dake was in college. Some people really thought he had a chance at Olympic gold. Burroughs and Cox hammering the poor guy for a decade took its toll. Then he finally sqeaks past and gets teched 11-0 in Tokyo! WOW! Talk about a legend that just fizzled out! SAD!
@holdenrussell69362 жыл бұрын
Fizzled out?!?!?! He's won three world titles and still came back to win olympic bronze after getting teched. You do realize a world championship is just as hard as olympic gold, the only difference is the year. You could have a three year peak with no injuries and get hurt on the fourth and never win an olympic medal, at least Dake regathered himself after the tech to bring the US a medal.

@@holdenrussell6936 Most guys I know at that level use the world tournies to play with weight classes and try new techniques. Be real - athletes only bring their A game to the Olympics! Dake would trade 100 world title for on Olympic gold. There is NO comparison!
