Although I’ll admit that 0.08 IS slightly more common, 0.05 is still the range at which people have caused incalculable damage and potentially death in both Aus and NZ. We take drink driving EXTREMELY seriously because as of now, it’s one of our 3 biggest killers on the roads. Also, your description of Hooker’s situation is VERY reductive. New Zealand was going through an extremely tough lockdown that saw them come out of the pandemic relatively unscathed, especially in comparison to the US. Sure it sucks that he couldn’t see his family, but the virus killed indiscriminately, and those procedures were necessary. Also “nanny state” or not, both are much safer than the US lmao

I just see Belal as an insecure dude who is just trying to be liked, so I can feel that and it makes me sad to see people attack someone who is already down. Seems like live chatting leads directly to toxicity. I never got into it, too chaotic. If someone is going to insult me, I want them to think about it, develop the ideas for as long as they want before sharing and have it appear in a context structure like in normal comments. Live chatting is all bundled together, I think there's something about it that makes people crazier and more toxic. Someone smarter than me would have to get into the actual social\psychological mechanisms involved.
