Download: tinyurl.com/ybtoea9w (Bandcamp) Download: tinyurl.com/yd9r7pd3 (Apple) Since 2008, there has been a tradition on my channel to record "Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts on the piano every year. This year's rendition makes a conclusive statement to finish off this decade-long tradition with seventeen minutes of improvisation on this fabled tune. This recording also marks the first official video using my new gear: 1) Grand Piano 2) Camera/Lens 3) Tripod 4) Microphones That being said, please feel free to provide feedback. I know I could have turned manual focus on instead of auto focus-- so that will be sorted out, but what lighting should I consider?
@bernice_chu5 жыл бұрын
I was waiting for this!!! Great cover 😊 ❤️❤️ 1. Yes, definitely switch to manual focus so it doesn't keep changing throughout the video. Use a larger f-stop/aperture (f5.6+ so all the piano keys are in focus) 2. I think it would be great if you can do a more wide angle, and not so much over your shoulder but from the side of the piano so we can see you and more of the grand piano! 3. As for lighting, some keys were a overexposed a bit, so either dim it down or put something over the light to disperse it (you can use a silk - softens and creates less shadows). I think it would be interesting if you put lights (maybe different colours), focused on the inside of the grand piano so it gives a different kind of look. And remember to white balance!! Love all your covers, and can't wait to see all the new changes to come!!

Well, that was it then, the last one! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think this yearly recurring piece shows how you developed yourself as a pianist over the years. I'm a bit sad cause this was the last one but mostly grateful for all of those amazing renditions you made over the years! PS I don't want to make it sound like you're closing your channel, haha! ;-)

Dearly Beloved has honestly been one of my favorite songs for a really really long time. Once I found the first one I completely fell in love with it all over again, looking forward to listen to the next version you would arrange. I loved this dearly and I'm so thankful you can show us your talents! This last one was really stupendous, however I will still love the one from 2016. All of your pieces have so much emotion in them and it really shows. I am sad that this will be the last Dearly Beloved video, but I know you will still produce so many awe-inspiring piano pieces! Keep up the amazing work :)
@robertfinley6815 жыл бұрын
As a musician myself, I agree with comments to light the full depth of your keys. You play very deep into the piano because of how your elbows rest. To contrast, I would also darken the room slightly to not have the soundboard “glow” in distraction. Alternatively, for certain thematic effect in somber or bittersweet pieces, you could record with the lit keys in full grayscale.

Thank you, for keeping up this tradition all these 10 years. When I started listening to you ni 2008 I was in my second year of high school. That young boy from back then has grown listening to your music, of which has been an inspiration all through my life since then. Whilst listening to the Dearly Beloved here and the one on the KH3 title screen, yours suits it so much better. So from now on, whenever I lowed up that screen, I will mute my tv and play your rendition instead. Thank you Kyleandry for making such wonderful pieces.

Growing up my little brother and I always played KH on ps2, it was kinda "our time" as brothers...... we both played piano together as well, and always loved Kyle's arrangments. He died a few years back, and now any time I play Kyle's arrangements, or even hear them it brings me back to those precious memories. Hearing this so many years later is something special. thanks for this Kyle! It has a greater impact then you could imagine.

Listening to this reminds me of a conversation I had with a guy in high school..... I play the piano- far less now than I should, but back then I carried around my sheet music, and I took every free moment I could steal in school to sneak to the piano in the chorus room and practice. One day the guy said to me, "I've seen you carrying around that piece for a while. Why do you play the same piece over and over? Doesn't it get boring? Let's say you perform somewhere and it turns out that someone else is playing the exact same piece....why would you want to listen to that twice?" I told him that each time I listen to orchestral/instrumental music, I listen for something new. There's so much to feel, and hear that's being put into the piece, that each time I hear something I hadn't caught before. In the same way, no two musicians can play the same piece the *exact* same way. In fact, no musician themselves could play the same piece twice in the exact same way. They won't hit the keys at the same time, with the same depth. Each time, it turns into something new. I've never known a musician who epitomizes this quite so much. Of course, you do add new parts to the melody, new emotions, but intertwined with the same breath taking melody. I actually listen to your rendentions of this piece one right after another, because in a way, it is the same piece, but so entirely different each time. This has definitely become a favorite of mine. It expresses so much as well- so much that can never be dictated in words. Just simply- amazing.

Very sentimental post ahead!!! Kyle, At every end of the year, I looked forward to your Yearly Dearly Beloved (#YearlyBeloved) cover as I rewatch every single one from 2008 to the latest one, and its been a fun ride, thank you! (Here's were it gets sentimental) I've been watching your videos ever since I found Dearly Beloved 2012. I was a sophomore in high school, I had depression and was looking for ways to cope. At the time, I loved to play piano for fun as well as sing in choirs, once I found your video, I was shocked that not just you, but many others out there share the same or similar feelings to Dearly Beloved. I immediately became a fan to your channel. I even started to copy you and started to learn to improvise and sometimes I would lose my self hours on end and felt fulfilled after, even if the rhythms and part writing were weird. (Side note:I really wish I was part of the OG DB2008 family but alas times were different then). Over time, I've looked to your videos for inspiration, creativity and to feel inspired and determined to keep going no matter the situation. I've cried, I've slept, meditated, and did homework to your music. I was inspired to improve my musical skills and express myself on the stage. I eventually built the courage and I can now proudly say that I have played my versions of Dearly Beloved for crowds. Now in 2019, I'm in my 4th year in University as a music major and will still be here for a little while longer. Currently, I'm facing one of my biggest challenges ever against myself again and trying to keep up with my school work, musicianship, confidence and health. As of writing this, I will be performing in Carnegie Hall in about 2 weeks, I will be giving my own Vocal Recital in May and ending with an arrangement of Dearly Beloved for piano, and will be Graduating with a Music B.A. in the next 2 to 3 years. When I saw your videos back in 2012, I never imagined that I'd be doing the stuff I do now. You're an inspiration! You yourself and your music have changed my life. Once I'm done with my Bachelors, I plan to pursue higher education in Musical/ Vocal Performance. I Wanted to let you know that you're one of my main inspirations and that your music has allowed me to be who I am today. I know there are others just as impacted as I am by you, and I'm sure they'll agree with me when I say, thank you very much for your time, thank you for this video, for all the Dearly Beloved Covers, for all of your hard work and music! Thank you for the journey, I will always support and watch your videos until can no longer do so. Keep doing what you're doing, and again, Thank you so much for everything!

Literal tears. I've been watching you play this for over a decade, through various accounts and life events, and it's all culminated into this beautiful performance. Thank you, Kyle.

I don't remember exactly what piece it was that I heard from you first almost 10-11 years ago. I remember searching for Advent Children music and your page was one of the top I found and I immediately was struck by the passion with which you played Those Who Fight. I've been following your music for almost that entire time (I'm fairly certain my brain had a very weird couple of years when I was in college where I lost track of everything nerdy I enjoyed so I lost track of your page for a while) but it's been an honor and a privilege to watch you grow from a performer into a full-blown composer. I've looked forward to your renditions of Dearly Beloved every year ever since I heard your first variation, and I think my personal favorite is 2016. That was an emotional year for sure and I could feel all those emotions as you played and I still listen to it every so often if I need a release. Part of me is sad that this is the end of that era, but we all must move forward, yeah? So keep on trucking and playing and composing, and I'll be somewhere way in the background cheering you on and hoping to someday start a game and hear your music pouring forth.

It's certainly bittersweet knowing that this is the last time I'll hear you cover this song, but I'll never forget waiting for this every year. It's been a fantastic decade and I can't wait to hear more from you.

I’ve listened to each one of these every single year, and while I am sad that this is the last one, it was absolutely beautiful. Amazing work Kyle, and thank you for the ten year long Dearly Beloved journey! Your renditions of these songs are truly incredible and beautifully unforgettable. Thank you.

I usually don't comment on videos and you probably won't see this, but I've been following you since the Kyle556 days and have chatted with you a few times (?) on your old forum YEARS ago so you probably don't even remember me, but I'm so incredibly happy to see how far you've come! Makes me a bit teary eyed to be honest haha. I still remember listening to your covers while doing homework and doodling on my sketchbook way back in elementary school all the way through high school. I'm an animation/film student now years later and whenever I think about how my art career started, my brain just automatically plays your first Storytale Soundscape improv because I've listened to it so many times. I think I can almost remember every single note in that 23 minute video : ) Also it's crazy to think we have the same piano now (maybe ours are even made around the same year! a 7'4" older C7 right?), makes me a bit sad and guilty to have such a nice instrument while not having the time to play it at all. I hope you enjoy the C7 man, it's a beast. What microphone did you end up getting by the way? I saw you were debating on a few options on your twitter. Cheers dude. p.s. I can kinda hear some buzzing and clipping in the audio at some points, make sure you check the peaks before you record! As for lighting, it might be worth taking a look at the 3 point lighting technique. That's pretty much the de facto standard for lighting any form visual media from interviews to hollywood movies.

I have been following you for half of my life with the same youtube account I started with. I still have my Kyle Landry piano playlist with the original kingdom hearts plays.......and through all of the depression, anxiety, grief, health problems ect I have had I can't believe I actually got to live and complete this journey with you Kyle. You are an amazing being. I love you and I truly thank you.

Kyle, the piano sounds beautiful and clear. Even just a little ways more to the left with the camera angle would be better so that we can view the entire 88 keys Your body is slightly blocking the last couple of octaves. It gives the impression that the keyboard area is small (even though we know it's a piano with 88 keys). And maybe just a tad further back on the camera also. I love all your videos and playing. I'm going to look at your older videos and see if I can spot a good angle and tell you which one it is.

Also, changing the angle of the lighting would be great. Bathe those keys with light baby!!

But don’t lose the reflection from the backing behind your keys-in fact, put the whole depth of the reflection in the frame and light it from above your upper periphery, to prevent shadowing without blinding yourself

I've read that when you get chills listening to music its usually because you were subconsciously anticipating the music to sound a certain way or have a certain pattern, but the music didn't follow your expectations it went a direction that you hadn't thought of that was better than what you were imagining. lol I couldn't even imagine this.

My friend and I just did this cover too, but in the back of my mind I knew Kyle was going to come out any day with something to easily upstage us haha. You can really tell no one knows this piece as well as he does. Also I love how you can hear the keys release starting at 4:12. You might need headphones though.
